Character Trait for November
This month’s mindset focus will be on responsibility. Please ask your child throughout the month what responsible choices they made, or what they have learned about responsibility at school.
From the PBIS Team
Congratulations to the Marsh and Hutcherson families for submitting photos of their children displaying our character trait for November- Responsibility!
From the PBIS team-
One of the focuses for our Social/Emotional (SEL) Curriculum is learning about our feelings. We learn that we all have feelings. Our feelings are shown on our faces! We can show our emotions by smiling when we are happy or frowning when we are sad. For this week, have your families make some feelings turkeys and bring one in for our SEL curriculum board and drop them off in my room. Here are some examples below. Have fun with this one!
The 20 Minute Challenge!
The 20 Minute Challenge!
Mrs. B.Garbutt and Ms. Gordon continue to challenge you to dedicate just 20 minutes of your day to reading at home. This could be reading on your own, listening to someone else read, or taking turns reading with a family member or friend.
Why read for 20 minutes?
There are many academic and social benefits to reading daily.
This week we share benefit #6.
6.)Strengthen perspectives and improve imagination: Reading daily exposes children to a world outside of their own. It can provide them with new perspectives and open their imaginative minds, helping them build a love for reading and learning as well as introduce new interests they may never have been exposed to.
Here is a great resource for finding high interest books for reluctant and/or curious readers: High Interest Books
Let’s keep all of our Roosevelt Tiger students and families reading 20 minutes per day! Stay tuned for benefit #7 in a future Parent Roundup.
PBIS
Thank you to all the families who returned the PBIS commitment sheet included with our pamphlet. Our staff and students are dedicated to being respectful, responsible, and safe as stated in our Positive Behavior Matrix. Students can earn “red tickets” for following the matrix expectations. Every Friday, teachers pull two red tickets, and the students can come to the lobby for a special prize!
Medications and Health Information - Please read!
If your child has a medical condition and/or requires medication at school, please download the forms your child needs for school, based on their health conditions (Life-Threatening Food and/or Insect Allergy, Allergy IHCP, Asthma, Diabetes, Seizure Disorder). New forms must be completed by you and your child’s physician each year (dated after the last day of school of the previous school year). Please ensure that the forms include both your signature and your child’s doctor’s signature. We cannot dispense any medication without these completed forms. Forms can be found on our school website under the parent tab as “Health Forms”.
Medications and forms can be brought to the school office anytime moving forward. Don't delay in sharing medical updates as you get updated information.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Serazio at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org.
November Lunch Menu
Art with Ms. Salvia
This week in Art, 2nd-4th graders practiced drawing 3D cubes. We learned two different ways to draw a cube and explored our own ways to approach drawing a cube. Then, we finished up our crystal projects from last week. 1st and Kindergarteners worked on making Turkey Portraits! We learned that a portrait is a picture of what a person or animal looks like, whether it be a painting, drawing, or photograph. We used shapes like circles and triangles to draw the turkey's face and body. Young 5's and cub crew artists either finished their pumpkins from last week or began a new project that will be finished next time.
Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving break. See you next time in art!

PLTW with Mr. Morrow
Hello Scientists and Families,
This week in PLTW was a build extravaganza. Our students have been hard at work putting all of their planning into action.
Kindergarteners exercised their reusing skills to create a toy/game out of materials that might otherwise be thrown away.
1st graders built their sound/light devices that are used to help someone if they get lost on a hike! They used items that might be readily available to hikers.
2nd graders built and tested their coolers that were built using items that would be found around the house when in a bind.
3rd graders are in the middle of their build that will help a tiger that is stuck in the moat of its exhibit at the zoo. They are using the VEX IQ kits to do so.
4th graders have been hard at work designing a prosthetic limb for an animal that has sustained an injury.
These builds are a testament to our students' resilience, communication skills, and adaptability. Our short week next week will be used to finalize our builds and explain our learning.
LMC with Mr. Pinta
This week in the library several classes got to test out the new LEGO and Magnet walls in the library. By following expectations and library etiquette, students should get to interact with both after checking out books each week. Looking to start this regularly the week following the Thanksgiving holiday.
In the Learning Lab Young 5's and Kindergarten classes listened to "How to Catch a Turkey" by Adam Wallace, then using LEGOs built their own turkey trap. First grade through fourth grade students worked on their drag and drop skills by completing some Thanksgiving Pixel Art. These are located in their Google Classroom for library if you are interested in checking them out or having them practice more at home. During our short week next week, students will continue with the pixel art some more. After the break, we will get into some coding and continue with digital citizenship.
Music with Ms. Grammatico
It has been a great week in the music room! 4th graders have continued to work on "B" and "A" on their recorders. They are continuing to figure out how to play "Hot Cross Buns" on their own. We will officially learn the song when we come back from Thanksgiving break.
3rd and 4th graders played the game "A Pumpkin Ran Away" and many students had the opportunity to play the accompaniment on the bass metallophone. 3rd graders also played many different instruments to the song "Turkey on a Hill." It was interesting managing all of the instruments at once!
2nd graders continued learning the songs and games for "Obwisana" and "Tideo." We added an extension to the song "Tideo" where they did a hand clap with a partner.
Kindergarten and 1st graders played a new game with the song "Turkey Feathers." Each student got to sing a solo and place a "turkey feather" on our drum turkey during the song.
See everyone for our short week next week!
