Welcome back for another week at MHS - for those who are counting we are looking at 17 school days left for underclassmen, and 10 school days left for Seniors.

On Monday, we will be completing our MEA Science test for Juniors only. Morning SRTC Juniors will not be attending SRTC on Monday morning (SRTC is aware of this). Morning SRTC Juniors will report to the cafeteria and we will begin testing at the end of Block 1. All other Juniors will be called to the cafeteria near the end of Block 1. This is a final opportunity for Juniors to showcase the learning they have achieved in the Science Content since their 8th Grade year. The results we get from this test help us determine what changes we need to make in our Science class offerings for the future.

Wednesday, May 22 is an Early Release Day. We are also fortunate to be hosting another Career Day as our Science Department staff, Physical Education staff, and STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) staff have arranged for representatives from multiple industries to share their experiences with our students in an effort to expand student knowledge of potential careers beyond high school.

We wish to extend a special (and well-deserved) congratulations to Mr. Drew Halpin-Desmarais, Mr. H-D, as he is known around school, was recently named by the Maine Music Educator Association as the Outstanding New Music Educator of the Year Recipient. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to serving the students at MHS, Mr. H-D!

Finally, a reminder that on Monday, May 27 the district is closed in observance of Memorial Day.

Senior Nevaeh Kerrigan and her pup Flynn have recently begun their training with FEMA to conduct cadaver recovery, tracking and trailing, under water searches, and explosives detection. Nevaeh has also been asked by FEMA to serve as a representative for her generation and future Search and Rescue personnel. She will be working with FEMA to encourage others her age (and younger) to become involved in the world of Search & Rescue. Congratulations to Nevaeh, Flynn, and her family for this wonderful recognition!

Congratulations to Seniors Jacob Clark (third from the left), Charlie Carroll (fourth from the left), Haley Stevens (fifth from the left), and Ben Tanguay (pictured separately) on being named recipients of scholarships from the Sanford-Springvale Rotary Club. Students and their loved ones recently attended a breakfast celebration hosted by the Rotary Club to recognize them for their efforts in their respective high school careers. Congratulations to Jacob, Charlie, Haley, & Ben representing MHS well!
