The FAST Flyer

During their monthly meeting in November, the FAST governing board voted to approve Friday, December 20, 2024 as a half-day. Students will be dismissed at 12pm on the last day before winter break. ASP will not be available that day. Please be sure you make arrangements to pick up your student if they normally attend ASP.

Our Lost and Found is overflowing with fleece jackets, hoodies, and winter coats (not to mention the water bottles and lunch boxes)! We make every effort to return lost items to students when there is a name on the item; however, most items we find are not labeled. Please take a moment to check the Lost and Found or remind your child to look for any missing items. Anything not claimed before winter break will be donated so please claim it soon.

The temperatures have dropped significantly over the past several days, marking the true arrival of cooler weather. This week, we’ve observed several students arriving at school without jackets, coats, or appropriate cold-weather clothing. Some have even been wearing shorts or short-sleeve shirts without any additional layers.

Please remember that our students spend time outdoors every day for recess and/or PE, weather permitting. As long as the temperature is above 30 degrees and it is not raining, outdoor activities will continue as usual. To ensure your child is comfortable and can fully enjoy their time outside, we kindly ask that you dress them in warm, weather-appropriate clothing.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for helping us create a supportive and prepared learning environment.

Next Friday is our annual Holiday Jubilee when our elementary students will perform songs of the season. We hope to see you and any friends or family you would like to invite. Take a look at this map and reminders below to see the details and logistics of the day. Our 6th grade students have also been working on some artwork to promote the event.

Details:

• Student Check-Out will be available at a table on the turf after concerts if you want to sign your student out early

• Student Attire will be formal with the theme of Blue and White (please no pajamas)

• Please enter an exit through the side door of Innovation Hall

• Parking will be available on campus (be mindful of your time on campus as parents will be coming in for the next concert time)

• Seating will be available for the concerts with standing room on the sides and back

• All concerts will be recorded

• Each elementary grade will have a show time during the day (posted below)

Performance Schedule:

8:30am: 5th grade

9:30am: 4th grade

10:30am: 3rd grade

11:30am: 2nd grade

12:30pm: 1st grade

1:30pm: Kindergarten

The last week before break, we will have a Winter Wonderland Spirit Week! Students are invited to dress for each day's theme (see below). Students who choose not to participate are expected to be in uniform.

This year, more than 40 presented projects from nearly every category. We were so impressed by their creativity and hard work. We had several judges on hand including a few industry professionals who were able to provide feedback for our students to improve upon their projects before heading to the county competition in January. Big shout out to Ms. Sawhney for coordinating the event and mentoring the students.

We are excited to announce that this year’s yearbook is now available for pre-order! Our yearbook will be filled with special memories, class photos, and highlights from the 2024-2025 school year.

ABSENCES: Please report student absences to both attendance@fastk8.org and your student's homeroom teacher. You may send doctors' notes for absences directly to attendance@fastk8.org

CURRICULUM/CLASSROOM CONCERNS: If you have questions or concerns regarding your child's class, your first point of contact should be your child’s classroom teacher. If further clarification or assistance is needed, you can contact the respective assistant principal (anesha.james@fastk8.org or elementary or demetria.walker@fastk8.org for middle school.)

TRANSPORTATION CHANGES: If your student will have a change to their afternoon transportation (whether it is for a day or long-term), please be sure that you are communicating any changes to your student's afternoon dismissal to both their homeroom teacher and Ms. Cadogan (gail.cadogan@fastk8.org).

If your child is not feeling well, we encourage you to keep them home to avoid spreading illness at school. Please keep in mind that if a student is running a fever they are expected to remain out of school until they have been fever free without the use of medication for a full 24 hours.

Please remember that FAST is a nut free school. Students should not bring any foods for lunch or snack that contain any nut products including, but not limited to, peanut butter or almond butter.

This is a serious risk to those students with severe allergies. Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.

As a reminder students are not permitted to use their cell phones or Bluetooth devices throughout the day. Students who have a cell phone out after school begins at 7:40am through 3pm will have their phone confiscated for the day. Please remind your students of this policy so that you will not have to come to the office to retrieve their phone.

Students must be in homeroom by 7:40am each day. Please be sure that you are allowing time to navigate carpool and your student to get to class on time. If you arrive after 8am, you will need to come into Innovation Hall to sign in your student.

Early dismissals are not permitted after 2:40pm (M-Th, 1:40pm Fridays). If you need to pick up your child for any reason, please plan accordingly.

Students who are not in full uniform will have their parents contacted.
