Middle North Weekly Reminders and Updates
No Phones
We strongly discourage sending a phone with your child to school. If it is absolutely necessary, please remind them to power it off and keep it locked in their locker. According to our Student Handbook, phones must be powered off and out of sight throughout the entire school day. They can be turned back on once school is over.
If students need to contact parents, office phones are available. Phones seen during the school day may be confiscated by a staff member and kept in the office until the end of the day. These expectations also apply to smartwatches.
Curriculum Night
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday night, September 5th. Doors will open for parents/guardians at 5:45 p.m., and you will head to your child's advisory class, where we’ll begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. You can find the name and room location in PowerSchool.
In the advisory class, you will receive a copy of your child's schedule, which will help you navigate from class to class and meet their teachers! The evening goes quickly, so please feel free to call or email with any questions before or after the event.
Hearing & Vision Screening
In the next two weeks, vision and hearing screening will be conducted during school hours:
Vision Screening: State-required screenings are for preschool, kindergarten, 2nd, and 8th graders, students with Individualized Education Plans, and new students to the District. School vision screenings aren't a replacement for full eye exams by a professional. If your child has had an eye exam within the past year and we have the report on file, they can skip the screening. Otherwise, it's required for students in the mandated groups.
Hearing Screening: All students in preschool, kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, and students with Individualized Education Plans will be screened annually for hearing.
Office Hours and Reporting Absences
School office hours are from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. If your child will be absent from school, please let us know by using the Report An Absence form on the website, calling the office at 847-990-4400 or by sending an email to msn-attend@hawthorn73.org. Please include any symptoms your child may be experiencing if they are absent because of an illness.
