September 18, 2024
Dear Buena Vista Families,
Thank you to the PTA and and all of the families that joined and shared their favorite foods, traditional dress, and dances with each other last week for an amazing Multicultural Night at Buena Vista. What a great way to spend a Friday night! A special thanks to Anthea Yugawa for heading the organization of this event and her set-up and clean-up crew, it's success was because of all of you!
Read-a-Thon!
Our annual WCEF read-a-thon is under way! Our school goal is to read 100,000 minutes and raise $26,500. So far we have read 9.542 minutes and have raised $8,364. Mrs. Sumnicht's 2nd grade class is in the fundraising lead with $1,454 raised so far...with Ms. Craigin 3rd grade class and Ms. BB's TK class closing in on her. Mrs. Pacific's 4th grade class has logged the most minutes read with 1,420 minutes...Mrs. Bockser's 5th grade class and Ms. Campbell's 4th grade class are not far behind. Way to go!!!
WCEF is our district’s fundraising partner, providing additional funding for teacher and specialist salaries, academic programs, support for our libraries, and additional classes not possible without your gifts to WCEF.
We currently have 72 student participants. If you have not signed your child up yet, there is still lots of time to join in! One small pledge will make a huge difference. Get those reading minutes logged!
Pledgestar, which WCEF is using for the event, has an app to make it easy to track reading minutes and funds raised! You can customize your student’s appeal, translate it into 50 languages, have your gift matched, and more. To sign up visit pledgestar.com/wcef or for more information visit wcefk12.org/readathon

Parent Volunteer Needed
Our School Site Council has their first meeting next Wednesday, September 25th from 3-4pm. I have 4 staff members and 4 parents who have agreed to represent you all for this year and help make decisions on our school site plan, budget and safety plan. I need one more parent to join this committee so we have enough parent representation. Please email me at agramlick@walnutcreeksd.org if you would like to join us. We meet monthly 5-7 times per year.
Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15th is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout the month teachers will be including lessons and read alouds for Hispanic Heritage Month. This is a wonderful time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Hispanic Americans.

PTA Membership Drive
As you may know, the PTA plays a vital role in enriching our school community. They organize a variety of events and activities throughout the year, aiming to provide enriching experiences for our students while fostering a strong sense of community. Unfortunately, current PTA membership is lower than in years past. Without a significant increase in membership, we will be forced to charge for, or cancel many events that we currently offer for free. This is a decision we would like to avoid, as we believe that everyone should have equal access to these valuable opportunities.
A strong membership base is essential for the PTA to continue operating as a non-profit organization. We pride ourselves on holding one main (Fun Run) fundraiser a year, but this alone is not enough to sustain our efforts.
Please consider becoming a PTA member to help maintain our current programs and explore new initiatives. Click here to join for as little as $15. Together, we can create a more vibrant and engaged school community for all.

WCEF’s 5th Annual Read-a-thon is here!
Our 5th annual Read-a-thon started strong on Monday with SO many readers and minutes logged! There’s still plenty of time to join in the fun and raise money to help WCEF ensure all students have access to a comprehensive education, open libraries, and a vast array of electives. Our goal is to raise $185,000! We can do this. To sign up, please visit pledgestar.com/wcef.
DID YOU KNOW? Only 9% of schools in California benefit from a credentialed librarian and 50% of library funding comes from the community. It's up to us to support our libraries!
Exciting prizes include soccer ball fidget spinners, stickers, gift cards and other fun incentives. One lucky reader will even win a PanCoast pizza dinner!

Platinum Business Partner - Kaiser Permanente
WCEF is proud to partner with Kaiser Permanente as a Platinum Partner for the 2024-25 school year. Kaiser’s partnership will help support the Las Lomas Wellness Center, create additional classes in the performing arts for all students in grades TK-12, and more. Thank you to Kaiser Permanente for investing in WCEF and our 5,000 students across eight public schools!

Is your child home from school?
Parents, it is very important that you remember to leave a message on the attendance line at (925) 944-6822 ext. 3801 or email jlouie@walnutcreeksd.org if your student will not be coming to school. Emails to teachers or the Principal do not always get communicated to the office. Thank you!
