Chandler AVID Newsletter
October/November 2024
Hello AVID Families and Community!
Our AVID classes all had an amazing first quarter filled with learning, planning, team-building, and HAVING FUN! Congratulations to our 1st hour AVID sophomore class for earning DONUTS for having the highest class average GPA for 1st quarter... 3.77!!
The second quarter is underway with a lot of fun units and projects planned to help all of our students to continue making progress toward reaching their goals and being college and career ready.
If any of you have any successes that you would like to tell me about, I would love to share them in our AVID newsletters.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our AVID program. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at anytime.
Respectfully, Heather Dyke

On Friday, October 11th, we travelled to Flagstaff, Arizona to get a look at NAU. We were treated to a campus tour, a free lunch, and a presentation about the school. We were even able to meet up with a few of our 2024 CHS AVID alumni who are now NAU Lumberjacks!

While we didn't quite reach our goal, we are SO GRATEFUL to everyone that worked to ask for donations and those who made donations to our program. Those funds will go directly to pay for costs associated with our college tour field trips and our end-of-the-year AVID event in May. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
AVID Club participates in Chandler Community Trunk or Treat
Members of our AVID classes volunteered to help host a car at the Chandler community Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, October 29th. They passed out candy and did some face-painting!
Congratulations to Ava Pon Peterson!

💻 Meet after school on Zoom, once per month between February and May.
💬 Give feedback on how they can improve BigFuture® to help more students.

AVID October Club Meeting was AWESOME!

AVID is selling chocolate bars from 11/4 - 11/15
Attention AVID families!!!
To raise funds to cover all field trip transportation costs and our AVID end-of-the-year banquet in May, ALL of our AVID students will be asked to sell a minimum of 60 chocolate bars. Our fundraiser will run from Monday, 11/4 through Friday, 11/15. When each student checks out a box of chocolates, they will sign a form to confirm they understand that they are responsible for returning $60 in cash or unsold chocolate bars. Thank you in advance for your support with our fundraising efforts!
Congratulations to Chandler AVID for being awarded a CEF Grant!
Our Chandler AVID Site Coordinator, Mrs. Dyke, submitted a grant application to the Chandler Education Foundation "Cash for Classrooms" program, and we were selected!!! CEF will be covering the cost of the charter bus for the junior AVID college tour field trip to U of A in the spring. Thank you, CEF!!!
AVID Campfire Circle
One of our favorite Chandler AVID traditions is our Campfire Circle. The last day of each quarter we sit in a circle, inflate our "campfire", turn off the classroom lights, and turn on a YouTube video of a real campfire. Then we pass out graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate to make s'mores. We spend our time in our circle sharing our responses to questions.
AVID Freshman Start TUTORIALS
After preparing and learning about the Tutorial process throughout first quarter, our AVID freshmen had their first Tutorial session on Wednesday, October 16th. AVID tutorials are a collaborative environment in which students use the inquiry process and Socratic dialogue to address points of confusion they have from their content classes. They all did such a GREAT job!
