Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families- It’s been a great week!
We have very good numbers of students turning out for the winter sports season. With the weather going as wild as it has been recently, it’s a good time to move to indoor sports! Those are basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, and boys swimming. We don’t have a pool, so we co-op with Cheney and will do the same during the girls swim season in the spring. Our final fall sport still in action is fortunately an indoor sport as well. Today, just as you’ll be receiving the weekly Flyer, our girls volleyball team will be kicking off their first match in the State Championship volleyball tournament! We are so proud of their effort this season and have so enjoyed how fun they are to watch and how much fun they have playing together. Team chemistry is a real thing. In sports, or any organization, the working relations between the members is crucial to success. These girls have that-- and we wish them the best of luck!
Speaking of champions—did you hear about our high-flying Ridgeline Cheer Squad? At Ferris last Saturday they out-performed 15 teams in the Traditional category to earn the “Grand Champion” award! We’re so lucky to have these girls on our sidelines and leading the cheers. I’m always so impressed at how athletic they are by throwing and catching each other, tumbling and flipping, and the classic “toe-touch” that they make look so easy! Way to go Team!
I’m grateful to work with such talented teachers and counselors who support the day-to-day learning and growth of our students. I have spent a significant amount of time in classrooms and in conversation with our teachers and their commitment to our students achievement is very evident. Behind every individual student is a unique story. And every individual often requires just a little something different to be successful. That is the ‘art’ of teaching, being able to identify and respond to ALL the different situations that arise when you work with teens. All of you have at least one teen living under your roof, now imagine having 32 in one room at the same time and orchestrating conversations and learning opportunities? It’s quite a task!
Shout out to the cast and crew who wrapped up their fall production last weekend! We finally found out who dunnit! The jaded trophy wife! What a hilarious show and tremendous effort by the entire group for their countless hours of rehearsal—proving to me that show bizness is exhausting work!
Only two school days Monday-Tuesday next week. I’m not planning on a newsletter, but will send any important or time-sensitive info if something comes up.
Otherwise- please skim the Flyer for all the great things available at Ridgeline and be informed.
Happy early Thanksgiving!
Make it a great weekend! --Mr. Hardt
Student Services
Fall Semester ASVAB Testing
Do you have a junior or senior who either did not pass his/her SBAC or one who wishes to enlist in the military? If your answer to one or both of these questions is “yes,” RHS will offer interested students the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on Wednesday, December 4. As an information item, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) offers Washington students multiple ways to meet their Graduation Pathway requirement, with the first being the SBAC (passing Math and English tests taken sophomore year). For those who do not pass the SBAC, OSPI offers SEVEN ALTERNATE graduation pathways, and taking the ASVAB is ONE of them. Re-taking the SBAC is also one them. NOTE: While the ASVAB is used by the US military to help place enlistees in jobs, the scores from the tests of RHS test-takers will NOT be released to the military automatically. Students interested in military service will need to release their scores to the military.
If your student wants/needs to register for the ASVAB, please encourage the student to access the Google Classroom and complete the form Mr. Spraggins posted earlier this week. Students must complete the form NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1, and the test availability will be limited to the first 28 students who register. If you and/or your student have questions, please contact the grade level counselor or Mr. Spraggins (bspraggins@cvsd.org).

Additionally, RHS hosts a local scholarship page we share with East Valley, West Valley, and Freeman school districts. We will update the scholarship page as scholarships become available throughout the winter/spring.
