Statement on Recent Anti-Semitism
Greetings PSB Community,
Earlier this week, we were made aware of anti-Semitic stickers posted at various locations across Brookline, one of which was on a light fixture between the Florida Ruffin Ridley School playgrounds. The Public Schools of Brookline strongly condemns this act of hatred. These hateful and offensive actions have no place in our community or our schools and do not represent who we are. They are a direct attack on the values that we hold dear and work to foster every day within our district.
Our schools are committed to ensuring that every member of our community — students, staff, and families — feels safe, respected, and inclusive of their background and beliefs. We stand in solidarity with our Jewish community, knowing that hate against one is hate against all. This act targeting an area where a large number of Jewish and Israeli students and families reside is especially heinous.
The PSB continues to work closely with the Town and the Brookline PD as they investigate this anti-Semitic act, and we offer our full cooperation in their efforts to address and prevent any future incidents of this nature. Together, we must ensure that Brookline and PSB remain a welcoming and safe place for everyone.
Our school team acted quickly to ensure that no additional stickers were on the grounds Monday when our students returned to school. We want to thank the parent that discovered the sticker and immediately notified FRR administrators. We understand how important it is to protect our children from being exposed to hateful messages and are grateful for the quick response of our staff, community members and local Town partners who assisted in ensuring our school grounds and public spaces were cleared and remain clear. Should your child need support or assistance, please contact your school guidance counselor.
I want to emphasize that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated. We are dedicated to fostering a culture of kindness, respect and understanding, where every student and family feels safe and supported. I encourage and implore our community to stand together in rejecting hate and to report any concerns immediately.
Sincerely,
Linus J. Guillory Jr., PhD
