Mesquite Regional Day School Program for the Deaf ensures access to a language-rich, multicultural education utilizing American Sign Language and English, to provide individualized instruction for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, while supporting students, families, professionals, and surrounding communities.

For Babies and Toddlers, Birth to Three, Who Are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and/or Visually Impaired and Their Parent/Guardian
You are invited to experience interactive play activities with music, crafts, and movement during Babies' Day Out 2022 at ESC Region 11. This event is designed to support families of children who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, deafblind, and visually impaired, ages birth to three. Participants will have the opportunity to network with other families, sensory impairment specialists, representatives from Early Childhood Intervention of North Central Texas, and local agency representatives.
This event is a collaboration between the North Texas Vision Coalition and Tarrant County Auditory Services Collaborative.
Please note:
- Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m.
- Representatives from local agencies will be available to visit with families beginning at 9:00 a.m.
- Activities begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until Noon.
- Lunch will be provided.
- Registration is required.
- COVID-19 safety protocols will be implemented and followed.

Space Center University: Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Mission (ages 15 - 18)
Space Center Houston is excited to offer Space Center University: Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Mission (ages 15-18), a five-day program, June 13-17, 2022!
At Space Center U, participants experience the following:
- Hands-on, engineering-based activities and data collection technology integration for real-world analysis
- Behind-the-scenes access to NASA
- Interactive, project-based learning that includes sustainable habitat construction, robot retrieval mission and programming, multi-stage rocket design and launch, underwater “astronaut training,” collaborative teaming, and global awareness development
- Guest speakers who focus on what it takes to work at NASA and the projects that prepare humans for space exploration
- Astronaut presentations
- A graduation ceremony and certificates
The June 13-17, 2022, program is designed with the needs of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community in mind, including but not limited to ASL interpretation.

DHHS Certificate of Deafness for Tuition Waiver Program
Updates from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Office of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Services (DHHS) regarding the Certificate of Deafness for Tuition Waiver:
- The processing time for CODTW applications is now 30 days (previously 14 business days). Students are encouraged to submit applications sooner rather than later.
- DHHS has a NEW email address for tuition waivers: dhhs.tuitionwaivers@hhs.texas.gov. This email address can be used to submit a waiver application, ask questions about the program, check on the status of a submitted waiver, and request copies. (There was a typo in the November Engage newsletter. THIS is the correct email address.)
