A Look at the Week
We hope everyone has safe travels over the holiday!
World History:
Students have been finishing up our unit on Absolute Monarchy and are beginning to look ahead to the modern world. Next week we will be looking at Nationalism in preparation for our study of World War I in a few weeks. Please reach out if you have any questions at cbottom@usd207.org
Physical Education:
All is well in PE! We have decided to delay our work in the weight room until after Thanksgiving break. This week all classes finished their hearing/vision tests during PE and we have also finished team handball. Next week is shortened due to Thanksgiving break, so students will be participating in Play 60. Students in Sports Conditioning will continue their daily workouts. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have for your student!
*We will look to go outside as much as possible for PE (weather permitting). Please help us in reminding our students to bring water bottles and tennis shoes every day they have PE.

Avid 9:
This week in AVID students gave presentations over a career of interest. Careers ranged from Marketing Manager, to Photographer and Ultrasound Technician. Ask your student about the presentation they made!
We continued the week with completing a TRF with a riddle and it was hard! Students used their inquiry skills in order to come up with the correct answer.
The middle of the week was another grade/binder check to promote organization. The end of the week was students working with TEDTalks to learn a new concept.
Have a great weekend!
Math:
Just a reminder that students can check Google classroom for the Weekly Learning Plan, Vocabulary, Lesson Recordings, and Completed Notes.
Please continue to check Skyward regularly to check that students are completing assignments.
Algebra students completed Module 4 “Graphing Linear Functions”. The Module 4 Vocabulary Quiz was Friday, Nov. 22, and the Test is Monday, Nov. 25. We will begin Module 5 “Creating Linear Equations” following Thanksgiving break.
Pre-Algebra students completed Module 6 “Algebraic Expressions”. The Module 6 Test will be Tuesday, Nov. 26. We will begin Module 7 “Equations & Inequalities” following Thanksgiving break.
Geometry students took the Module 4 Test Monday, Nov. 18. We started Module 6 “Relationships in Triangles” and will take a quiz on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Thank you and have a great weekend! Mrs. Blount
Art:
7th, 8th and 9th grade artists have applied their knowledge of value through watercolor or tempera paintings of gems or crystals. 6th grade artists are designing mini-mosaics using cut straws.
Culinary Essentials:
Students began learning the Rules of Mise en Place, “to put in place” this week. To put this new skill into practice the class has been working together to produce a Classgiving Meal! Put their Culinary skills to work next week in the kitchen over the break.
If you have any questions, please contact me at kcox@usd207.org
Foods and Nutrition: Foods & Nutrition: As we begin wrapping up Unit 3: The Food We Eat, students have selected a common food allergen to research and prepare a presentation over. The students have been working all week in class and will have next week(2 days) to complete this project. Please encourage your kiddos to join you in the kitchen over the break to continue practicing their culinary skills.
If you have any questions, please contact me at kcox@usd207.org
Principles of Biomedical Science:
Students completed the sheep heart dissection and are now looking at different common human heart problems. Students have discovered Anna Garcia had an undiagnosed heart problem which resulted in her death. Students have completed the autopsy report for Anna Garcia. Ask your son/daughter about this process and please remember for many people, it is a difficult topic to study and discuss. Asking your child about how they are processing this information may be helpful and provide some needed support for those who may be struggling with it.
Students continue with weekly quizzes over the assigned reading material. These quizzes focus on simple concepts from the reading, vocabulary in the section and often contain the exact questions from the reading! To be successful on the quiz, students must do the reading. In addition, students may use their notes on the quiz so it is a good idea to record vocabulary as they read. Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Elder
Spanish 1:
We will begin Chapter 3 (Parts A & B) in Savvas. This vocabulary centers around food and drinks. We will be adding present tense conjugations for -ER & -IR verbs. The Vocabulary Quiz (2B) will be given in the first week of December.
Señor Wooly: The deadline for Nuggets 1-5 for Los Quehaceres is Monday, November 25 at 3:00 PM.
After Thanksgiving Break, students will choose any SW Story they haven't done this semester and complete 5 nuggets on it.
It is important for students to keep up with their homework and studies as the end of first semester approaches. There won't be a lot of time for catching up once a student falls behind.
I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving!
¡Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias!

It's been a great week in ELA 9. Students presented their podcast about a trip to see the aftermath of a war-torn country and their presentations were impressive. They also completed a poetry analysis. We are currently reading and analyzing an excerpt from “Night,” by Elie Wiesel. Students will have writing assignments in Writable next week (which they can access through classlink and HMH “Into Lit”).
Please reach out if you have any questions!
