Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
It's hard to believe that we have officially kicked off the Fall Season and next week we welcome October! We are very proud of how far we have come since August 30th.
October brings our review of Habit #1 Be Proactive. Please see below some resources and learning tools for Habit #1 for your child and the whole family.
We are happy to announce we are offering a Virtual Book Fair in October. Please see the information shared in this newsletter from our librarian, Terri Negri.
Instructional Plan Updates:
Virtual Students:
In this newsletter there is an article from the National Principal Association about ways to help manage stress your child may be facing with virtual learning. See below:
VCS Virtual:
Teachers have been hard at work meeting and assessing their students. This week VCS Virtual students should have received our Vicksburg Expectation letter and VCS Virtual Graphic as a resource to have for your child. I have been able to read to all the VCS Virtual classrooms and make some new year connections with our student leaders.
KVIC:
Chris Vandermei, a retired Sunset Lake teacher is our KVIC teacher of record and you should have been able to connect with Chris and complete assessments that were required for our KVIC program. Please let Tamara Young know if you need any assistance at 321-1562.
In-Person:
Our student safety leader team began this week which was a great help in getting our transitions to runner even smoother. The beautiful week of weather allowed our PE classes to be outside all week and our playground Super Hero Zones are working well.
*Families please note that we have started a new section of the SMORE for our Lost & Found. We will post pictures of lost items and keep the items for 2 weeks. If they have not been claimed we will be donating the items. This will help keep our building clean and free from piles of clothing. Thank you for your support!
Daily Student Screener:
Please be sure to complete the student health screener each day. See the picture below.
Building Entry and Exit: Please remind your child to look for the helper and/or door with the following Habits for their entry door each morning.
Habit 7: Collins & Haskell
Habit 6: Whitmore, Guerrero and Phillips
Habit 5: 5th Graders
Habit 4: 4th Graders
Habit 3: 3rd Graders
Habit 2: 2nd Graders
Habit 1: Newhouse Class & First Grade
Reminders:
Snacks/Birthday Treats:
Please remember that all snacks and birthday treats must be in individualized packages. We are not allowed to have home-baked items brought in for birthday treats, so please consider options that are store-bought and packaged individually.
End of Day:
Our end of day family pick up went quite well this week and no changes are necessary!
Big Celebration!!
We continue our commitment to safety and helping our students feel comfortable in their learning classrooms, whether it's in-person. We are Lifelong Learners and Lifelong Leaders. We will lean into our 7 Habits to help us make this year a great success!
Thank you Sunset Lake Families for your continued support and grace.
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw

Message from food service......
Dear Vicksburg Families:
We are happy to announce that the free meals offered through the Summer Food Service Program have been extended until December 31, 2020, or as long as the Congressionally appropriated funding is available. All children 18 years and younger qualify for a free breakfast and free lunch daily. Students learning in-person, will eat their meals in the buildings as usual. Virtual, KVIC, and in-person hybrid students may pick up their meals each Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Vicksburg High School.
