Greetings from Mr. Kueker
The first day is quickly approaching and I wanted to extend a welcome to all of our families. Below I have included some general information that will be helpful and important for you to have.
School Hours
Our first three days of school will be regular school hours, 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Starting Monday, August 26, and every following Monday throughout the school year, elementary school students are released 90 minutes earlier than Tuesday-Friday. We use this time to provide professional development for our tremendous educators. It is a consistent opportunity for staff to work to improve their craft to best meet the needs of students. As such, Monday school hours are 8:45 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, school hours are 8:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m.
Students arriving after 8:45 will need to be escorted to the main entrance by their parents or guardian, and will be marked tardy. At the end of the day, it is imperative that students are picked up on time. Carol Stream Park District hosts ActivKids at Western Trails. This is a before and after school program where families can drop off their students in the morning and pick them up from Western Trails after school. This is staffed by Carol Stream Park District staff members. For more information, visit their website by clicking HERE.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
To help ensure the safety of our students and expedite the drop-off and pick-up procedures, please carefully read the information below. I have included a graphic to help explain the process.
Drop-Off
Door 4 (Front of building by gymnasium)
Kindergarten and SA Classrooms
Door 8 (Blacktop doors)
First through fifth grade students line up by class on the blacktop
Parent drop off for first through fifth grade students is in the back of the building. Vehicles line up against the curb and students exit the vehicle on the passenger side. Please do not exit your vehicle to assist your student. Staff will be available to assist. There is NO PARKING in the staff lot. Kindergarten drop off is in the front of the building and vehicles will line up along the curb and staff will assist students from the vehicle to their class line.
Pick-Up
Door 4 (Front of building by gymnasium)
Kindergarten and SA Classrooms exit the building
Door 8 (Blacktop doors)
First through third grade students exit the building
Door 9 (Closest to staff parking lot)
Fourth and fifth grade students exit the building
On the first day of school, parents/guardians are not allowed into the building. I understand this can be an emotional day for students and guardians, but I have found the best way for everyone involved to acclimate and adjust to the new year is to provide consistent routines, which includes students entering the building independently. Staff will be available to assist students as needed, including our school social workers, psychologists and other compassionate and caring Western Trails staff members.
We are all excited to have the students back in the building and we can't wait to see them all!
Please know that we are here to help and support your child and your family. Call any time with questions or for assistance. The main office number is 630-588-6400.
Warmest regards,

Atentamente,
Brett Kueker
