NEWS FROM THE STUDENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Welcome back from our “Student Services” Department! Our School Counselors, School Psychologists, Student Support Counselor, Emotional Support Counselor, and Nurses hope you had a restful and rejuvenating summer. For those new to South, we look forward to introducing you to the services we provide including academic planning; college and career planning; social and emotional programs and initiatives; physical wellness support; connections to community resources (financial, housing, food, services); and educational record management. Enjoy the rest of your summer and we will see you soon!
Student Schedules
Student Schedules for the 2024-2025 school year will be available on the Student/Parent Portal on Friday, August 23rd at 8:00 AM. Schedules will not be mailed home. Schedules are built based on what students requested in the spring, which were viewable by parents on Parent Portal. Please note that no schedule changes will be made unless it is a request for a level change (approved by administration) or a prerequisite issue.
Counselors will be available at the Welcome to South Day on August 23rd to address any critical concerns that need to be addressed prior to the start of school. Students are welcome to schedule appointments with their counselor for the first week of school to address any non-critical scheduling questions.
PSAT Registration for 10th and 11th Grade Students
The PSAT/NMSQT will be offered to 10th and 11th grade students on Saturday, October 26th, 2024.
The window for 10th & 11th grade families to register on My Payments Plus will be open in early August.
The deadline to register will be Friday September 13th. The College Board has changed how PSAT registrations are processed, so late registrations are no longer possible. We plan to open registrations over the summer prior to the Fall ordering deadline so that all who register will get a seat; however, exam seats cannot be sold after registration closes. We are opening the registration window during the summer break because there will not be much time to register before the College Board’s ordering deadline in September.
College-bound 10th and 11th grade students are encouraged to take the PSAT to gain exposure to the SAT, an exam many colleges use when making admissions decisions. Typically, we suggest waiting until after a student completes Algebra 2 since this will be part of the math assessment, but it is up to the individual's readiness. Juniors may also use the test to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. For more information about the PSAT, you can visit the College Board website.
If your student plans on using accommodations associated with their existing 504/IEP, the appropriate paperwork must be submitted to the College Board before August 20th, 2024. Please contact your 504/IEP Case Manager regarding your student’s testing status if they are ready to take the PSAT.
Senior College Application Process Information
Some seniors may have gotten a head start on their college applications by working on them throughout the summer. While some colleges allow students to “self report” their school records, others require the high school to send the student’s transcript, schedule, school profile, and other school records directly to the admissions office. Seniors will be able to begin requesting those records on September 10, 2024. It is absolutely critical that the procedures we have in place are followed line by line to ensure that records are able to be pushed through Naviance. When students do the process out of order, it can lead to technical glitches that will delay our ability to process records requests through Naviance.
All resources for the College Application Process can be found on the Student Services Page. All students and their families are asked to carefully review the Application Process Packet and Quick Guide to Requesting Transcripts & Recommendations (to the right side of the page) prior to making any kind of request for records. We ask that students submit their applications prior to requesting transcripts and recommendations so there is a complete application in the college’s system to link up to.
AP Summer Assignments
Many AP courses have required assignments that must be completed before the start of school. If your student has requested an AP course, they should review the AP Summer Assignment Document to determine if there is a required assignment. All students have been made aware that not completing a summer assignment is not grounds for course withdrawal. Regardless of whether a student has their course scheduled for the fall or spring, their assignment will be due at the same time. Students should contact the AP course teacher directly with questions.
News From The Health Office
-All students entering 12th grade are required by the PA Department of Health to have a second meningococcal vaccine before the start of the school year. The Pennsylvania Department of Health has legislation to exclude any child from attendance at school who is not compliant with the above immunization schedule.
- All students in 11th grade are required to have a physical exam on-file per PA Department of Health. Please submit these forms to the nurse's office. If your student has a PIAA Sports Physical, she or he will not need an additional physical form. The Physical Exam Form is available on CB South's Website.
- If your student requires prescription or over-the-counter medication during the school day, a written physician's order and parent signature are required. All controlled substances must be delivered to the nurse's office by a parent/guardian. Health Office Hours are 7:00-3:00. The Medication Dispensing Form is available on the District's Website.
Student Pictures
ID pictures and photo packets will be taken on Thursday, September 12th for all students. Photo packets will be handed out in your student’s Titan Forum. All students must have an ID picture taken. Picture re-takes are scheduled for Thursday, October 24th.
First Day of School Bell Schedules
The first day of school for ALL students is Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
-The school day begins promptly at 7:25 AM. Students MUST be in their Titan Forum by that time. Otherwise, they will be considered late to school.
Important Information For MBIT Students!
MBIT students will attend Middle Bucks Institute of Technology every day. Therefore, the following information is very important.
AM MBIT STUDENTS
-AM Session MBIT students must board the MBIT bus each morning by 7:20 AM. The MBIT busses will be located in the front parking lot near the Auditorium.
-At the conclusion of MBIT, AM Session students will be dropped off at CB South in the front parking lot. Students should enter through the main doors and begin to participate in Lunch and Learn. MBIT drivers should also enter through the main doors and begin to participate in Lunch and Learn.
PM MBIT STUDENTS
-PM Session MBIT students will be dismissed to the Lunch and Learn block. Students will be responsible for reporting to the MBIT busses in the front of South by 11:05 AM.
-The PM MBIT busses return to CB South by 2:30 PM for dismissal.
Traffic Patterns at CB South
Traffic patterns are a significant safety concern on the CB South property. Student drivers will receive directions regarding their entrance to and exit from the building with the driving permit application form. We are asking everyone who drives on the South property to observe the 15 MPH speed limit. This speed limit is important during the school day and equally important during afternoon, evening and weekend hours. All drivers are also asked to follow the painted traffic lanes and not cut across the parking aisles to reach their destination. We have experienced many “fender benders” and even more “near misses.” It is very important for everyone to follow these rules to avoid a more serious incident. Security cameras are used to monitor the parking lots and violators will lose driving privileges.
Please visit CB South's website for specific Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up Information.
Procedures To Follow For A Student Absence
1. To report an absence, a parent should call the South Attendance Office, enter the absence into the Infinite Campus Portal, or send a note to the South Attendance Office on the morning of the absence and state the reason for the absence. The South Attendance Office's voice mail number is 267-893-3200.
2. All contact (phone calls/notes) from the parent/guardian must include the student's name, the date(s) of the absences, the reason for the absence, and the signature of a parent/guardian.
3. Failure to contact the school within the three-day grace period after returning from an absence will automatically make the absence unexcused or illegal. In addition, a 2-hour administrative detention will be assigned.
Specific information on CB South's Attendance Procedures can be found on our webpage.
