📚 BOOK FAIR 📚
We have had so much fun at the SMS Book Fair so far! It will continue to be open until Wednesday, September 25th! Be sure to stop by the Book Fair during Parent Teacher Conferences to shop, play games, and participate in the cake walk!
Students can pay with cash, check, card, and apple pay. Families can also set up an eWallet. This allows parents to upload money onto Scholastic's website so that students do not have to carry cash or card to school. More information about setting up an eWallet is posted below. See you there!
COMMUNITY SPONSORS TEACHER TREAT
A big shoutout and thank you to Patrick Campbell and State Farm Insurance for sponsoring the Hydration Bar for teachers this week at SMS. From Wednesday to Thursday, teachers were able to help themselves to several different flavor packets and fun recipes to mix into water. We appreciate the community helping our campus treat our teachers!
CKH THEME OF THE MONTH - EMPATHY
What is empathy?
Empathy is the ability to be aware of, understand, and be sensitive to another person's feelings. Instead of focusing on how these feelings impact ourselves, empathy motivates us to focus on others and respond with care and compassion.
This week is the final week for teachers to nominate a student that they have seen demonstrate empathy. Nominated students and their families will be invited to attend a special reception on October 4th!
Why focus on empathy?
- Empathy prepares your students to be leaders in their community. The best leaders understand the people they lead and are able to show they care.
Empathy in Action
- Communicate that you understand. Instead of giving advice, respond with reflective phrases like, "It sounds like you..." or "I hear that you..." to express that you understand and care.
POSITIVE OFFICE REFERRALS
SMS students are still going strong! Here are more positive office referral recipients . Way to go SMS students! Keep it up!
BE PRO BE PROUD
8th grade students at SMS had a special visit from the Be Pro Be Proud truck last week. Students were able to participate in several simulations including driving an 18-wheeler, tasks in construction, operating an excavator, welding, robotics in farming, working as a lineman, plumbing, and conducting a train. Thank you to Tina Melton for scheduling this amazing opportunity for our 8th grade students!
CLUB NIGHT SUCCESS
Thank you to all our families that attended our Club Night last Monday! We were thrilled to see so many people there, and we cannot wait to see students get involved in the clubs on our campus. Be sure to let club sponsors know if you are interested before their club deadlines.
