Below is everything you need to know about having a fun and successful Oyster Bake Experience!
The Fiesta Oyster Bake Movie
OysterBake Day Guest Pass
Tips from the Pros!
- Student ID and Guest Passes: Make sure that you have your student ID, DL/TX ID, and guest pass with you at all times. Whenever you enter your hall, you will be asked for you Student ID.
- Your cell phone will not work well if it even works at all. Cell service is awful because of all the people crowded in one area, so it will be really hard to try and get a hold of someone if you need to. It's helpful to come up with some sort of game plan before the event so that you know how you'll want to meet or contact your friends and/or family.
- Purses: Make sure to use a wristlet or a messenger bag when you go into the Bake PURSES WITH LINK CHAINS ARE NOT ALLOWED!
- Don't wear white or anything super nice or fancy. Literally, everyone and everything at Oyster Bake is a mess waiting to happen. You or someone else could spill food all over you, you'll be walking around in the sun getting sweaty, (Heaven forbid) a drunk person could puke on you, etc. Just try to wear something comfortable and that you wouldn't mind getting dirty.
- Don't spend all your coupons in one place. And also, definitely do not spend them all in one day. You get $60 worth of coupons that you can use to purchase food at the event for both days. This is because everything (the Cafe, Subway, etc.) will be closed all weekend, so the coupons compensate for your meal plan. (You don't need to actually use your Dinning Dollars if you have the 5 or 7-day meal plan) Because of this, you don't want to spend all of your coupons on rides, otherwise, you'll have to purchase more with your own money, or you'll have to go off campus for food.
- If you have a car, try not to leave campus. Otherwise, you will definitely lose your parking spot and might not even be able to get back on campus. The only safe time to leave is after 11 PM when the event ends and everyone else is kicked out, so save any shopping trips for before and after the event.
- Be on your best behavior. Don't think that just because you're a resident, you can get special treatment. You can't jump the fence, you can't cut in line, you can't get free food or a discount on food, etc. There will be visiting police officers from SAPD on campus, and they don't know who you are, so if they see you causing trouble, they will arrest you. This whole weekend is a strict no-nonsense period on campus.
- Always stay close to your guest. If you get a guest pass for a friend or your parents, make sure you don't lose them during the event. The guest pass gives them permission to enter the Hall, but only if you're there to escort them. They can not enter the Hall on their own.
- Guest passes are not wristbands. If your guest only purchases a one-day ticket, the pass will not allow them to go in and out of Oyster Bake like your resident and volunteer wristbands. If they leave Oyster Bake because they want to use the Hall restroom or something, then they will not be allowed reentry into the event unless they have the two-day wristband ($35) or they buy another one-day ticket at the gate ($25).
- Sunblock is a must. On Saturday when you are walking around, you tend to forget or lose track of the time! Staying out in the sun for as long as you probably will, WILL get you burned. Most of the time people forget about sunscreen, but you have been warned!
- Stay Hydrated.
