Kindergarten Lunch and Learn!
On Thursday, October 17th, from 12:30 - 1:30 pm
All Kindergarten parents are welcome! If parents can’t make it, grandparents/friends are welcome to attend. You are invited to eat lunch with your child. When the children are dismissed, parents will stay for a short “Parent Connection” time. All parents who attend the presentation will receive valuable information about how to help your child at home to become a better reader, along with a free book for your child.
You are able to order a school lunch to eat with your child or you may bring your own. The cost for lunch is $4.20 per person and must be paid when you RSVP. Invitations will be going home, please look for them in your Kindergarten student’s Thursday folder. An RSVP is needed so that we may have an accurate count for materials.

Title I Teachers
Bring a Book, Take a Book
This is a Title I All Student book exchange program that takes place in the library once a month from 8:20 am - 8:35 am. Students’ may bring up to 5 books to exchange, and will receive a book tag for attending.
**PLEASE WEAR YOUR BOOK TAG CHAINS EACH TIME YOU ATTEND!!

Join Our Grassroots Advocacy Committee
The Sioux City Community School District needs your voice on the Grassroots Advocacy Committee. Would you be willing to be a volunteer for our school? There is VERY LITTLE time commitment and you NEVER have to attend a meeting. As a volunteer, you agree to receive email updates about important legislative events that have an impact on public education. Then, we ask that you take the information you receive and contact our local legislators to let your voice be heard in advocacy of good public education. Advice will be provided on how you can email, call, or write a letter to the legislators. Take a look at some of the past advocacy for reference: http://www.uen-ia.org/legislation.htm. You can also look at the Legislative Action Priorities set by our school board: https://www.siouxcityschools.org/legislative-action-priorities/. Please contact our school principal to ask questions or volunteer.

Iowa Immunization Law requires your child receive the following vaccines for school entry:
Children in grades 9th -12th grade will need these required vaccines:
3 doses of Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTP)
1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine before entering 7th grade or born on or after September 15, 2000.
3 doses of Polio
3 doses of Hepatitis B
2 doses of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
2 doses of Varicella (chickenpox) or history of disease
Meningococcal (people often call it meningitis)
You are ages 11-12
You are ages 13-18 entering 7th and 12th grade required
Please make sure if your student is currently receiving the required vaccines and has received a “Provisional” certificate for school entry that all vaccines are received before the expiration date.
Call your School Nurse with any questions.
Sick Day Guidelines
Keep others well by keeping your child home when sick. For your child’s health, stay home if:
A fever of 100.0 degrees or higher
Vomiting or diarrhea
Symptoms that keep your child from participating in school, such as:
Cough that he or she cannot control
Headache, body aches, or earache
Sore Throat—a little sore throat may be ok for school, but a bad sore throat is not.
24 hour rule is good!
Fever: Keep your child home until fever has been gone with no medicine for 24 hours.
Vomiting or diarrhea: Keep your child home for 24 hours after the last time he or she vomited or had diarrhea.
Antibiotics: Keep your child home for 24 hours after the FIRST dose of antibiotic.

Influenza (also known as flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. The flu is different from a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly.
Flu symptoms
ü Fever* or feeling feverish/chills * Not everyone with flu will have a fever
ü Cough
ü Sore throat
ü Runny or stuffy nose
ü Muscle or body aches
ü Headache
The Flu Is Contagious
ü Flu symptoms start 1 to 4 days after the virus enters the body
ü Call your medical provider if your child has symptoms
ü Stay home for 24 hours after fever is gone without the use of medicine
