Free EKG youth heart screenings - November 1
Did you know that sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in exercising or at play young people on school campus and is typically the result of undiagnosed structural or electrical heart disease? The best way to detect life threatening heart conditions is through a heart screening developed for young hearts that includes a comprehensive family health history, electrocardiogram (EKG/electrical) and potentially an echocardiogram (ECHO/ultrasound).
The Nick of Time Foundation will be conducting FREE heart screenings district for youth (ages 12-24) at Snohomish High School (SHS) on Wednesday, November 1, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Screening appointments are available on a first-come, first-serve basis for any child, athlete or not, regardless of where enrolled in school. Any person (ages 12-24) is welcome and encouraged to register and get screened!
Appointments still available! As of 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, the following appointment times remain available for the Wednesday, November 1, Nick of Time Foundation screenings:
Glacier Peak High School (GPHS students registered at GPHS will ride district bus to/from screenings and should register with this link.)

- Boys spots are FULL.
Snohomish High School (SHS students, GPHS students providing own transportation to/from screenings, and students from district middle schools and other schools should register with this link. Fall theatre performance - You Can’t Take It with You
Check out our fall theatre performance - You Can’t Take It with You. This theatre production will be held November 10-11 and November 17-18 in the Glacier Peak High School Performing Arts Center. Winner of the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, You Can’t Take It with You, is the story of Grandpa Vanderhof and his wacky family, the Sycamores. Click here for performance and ticketing information. Traversa Ride 360 notice for Android users
Due to a recent change in the Android privacy policy, Traversa Ride 360 users will need to disable and reenable their My Stop Student Scan and/or Delayed Bus Notifications to continue receiving notifications. Follow these steps in the My Stop app to continue to receive Student Scan and/or Delayed Bus notifications:
- Open the My Stop app from the Android device
- Select Setup
- Turn off the Student Scan notification and/or the Delayed Bus notification
- Turn on the Student Scan notification and/or the Delayed Bus notification

November 7 general election information
The November 7 general election features races for county, judicial, city, school, fire, water and wastewater, sewer, hospital, and port districts. It also features local ballot measures for several city, fire, and EMS districts.
There are two Snohomish School District School Board positions on the November 7 ballot. School Board members represent the interests of the entire Snohomish School District. Although there can only be one board member from each boundary district (1-5), all district voters cast ballots for all board member positions.

And if you are a 16- and 17-year-old in the state of Washington, you can pre-register to vote! Registrants under the age of 18 will have their registrations held until they become eligible to vote.

School Veterans Day assemblies
Many of our schools have planned Veterans Day assemblies in early November. All veterans, families and community members are welcome to attend any or all of these events. There is no school on Friday, November 10.
High schools
- AIM High School – Students will be learning about the meaning of Veterans Day and discussing the importance of honoring all of our veterans during their advisory class on Thursday, November 9.
- Glacier Peak High School – Thursday, November 9, at 9:10 a.m. in the gym.
- Snohomish High School – Annual Veterans Day Assembly and Breakfast on Thursday, November 9. Veterans social (continental breakfast) is at 7:30 a.m. in the student center followed by an assembly at 8:25 a.m. in the gym.
Middle schools
- Centennial Middle School – Thursday, November 9, from 1-2 p.m. in the gym.
- Valley View Middle School – Wednesday, November 8, at 8:30 a.m. in the gym.
Elementary schools and Parent Partnership Program
- Cascade View Elementary – Monday, November 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the commons/gym.
- Cathcart Elementary – Thursday, November 9 at 10:45 a.m. in the school gym. We are asking veterans and active military members who will be attending to please notify the school office by Friday, November 3, so that you may be properly honored.
- Central Emerson Elementary (Central Campus) – For the first week of November students will gather information from families about veterans they know. Students will read books about what it means to be a veteran, sing patriotic songs and create a display to honor those who have served.
- Central Emerson Elementary (Emerson Campus) – Thursday, November 9, at 8:45 a.m. in the commons/gym.
- Dutch Hill Elementary – Thursday, November 9, from 9:15-9:45 a.m. (K-3) and 10:05-10:35 a.m. (4-6) in the commons/gym. Refreshments will be served to veterans and their families from 9:45-10 a.m.
- Little Cedars Elementary – Thursday, November 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the commons/gym.
- Machias Elementary – Wednesday, November 8, at 9 a.m. in the commons/gym.

Grizzlies recognized by National Merit Scholarship Program
Glacier Peak High School has four Commended Students in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program!

About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2024 competition for National Merit Scholarship Awards, Commended Students place among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Join us in extending a round of applause to these amazing students!
Sonic Squirrels take top place at Girls’ Generation competition
Our FIRST Team 2930 Sonic Squirrels are off to a terrific start! The Sonic Squirrels, who are made up of robotics student team members from Glacier Peak High School and Snohomish High School and teacher and team advisor Sean Wilson, competed at the 2023 Washington Girls’ Generation robotics competition at Tahoma High School this weekend. The goal for Girls’ Generation is to provide an inclusive experience for underrepresented communities in STEM.
After the qualifying rounds the team qualified in the top position (for only the 2nd time in team history) allowing the Sonic Squirrels to be the captains of the #1 alliance for the playoffs. The team chose Jackson High School and Bellevue High School as its alliance partners for the playoffs. During the playoffs the Sonic Squirrels alliance went undefeated and won the entire competition! A huge round of applause to the team who did a great job representing themselves and the district this weekend! We are so proud!
Openings remain at ECEAP program
Our Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) continues to have space available for this school year (especially during the 1-4 p.m. session).
ECEAP serves income-qualifying 3- to 5-year-old students in a developmentally appropriate preschool environment and collaborates with families to meet goals. Foster families, families caring for a child not their own (kinship care), children adopted from kinship or foster care, families experiencing homelessness and students with special needs may qualify.

Sno-Isle TECH Skills Center, located near Paine Field in Everett, is a cooperative effort of 14 local school districts. The purpose of skills centers like Sno-Isle TECH Skills Center is to provide preparatory training, certification, and post-secondary credit to students, who can then choose to continue their education, go straight to work, or both.
Occupations are organized into broad clusters or “pathways” based on characteristics of the job. The 22 programs offered at Sno-Isle TECH represent these five pathways: Information Technology, Business Marketing & Management, Human Services, Science & Health, and Trade & Industry. Community engagement is a priority for our school district, and we are looking for adults who are interested in getting more involved at a district level. Elementary Human Growth and Development and Secondary Sexual Health family presentations scheduled
Human Growth and Development will be taught each year during 5th and 6th grade and Sexual Health will be taught in 7th, 8th and 9th grade. Families are invited to attend a webinar to learn about the health standards, activities and resources that will be used to teach each of the topics, and the opt-out process. K-3 highly capable program information
If your student is currently in grades K-3 and you are interested in your student receiving highly capable services to include learning opportunities with more depth, complexity, and acceleration in the classroom please be aware of the following information. Students currently identified for highly capable K-3 services do not need to go through the K-3 referral process.
Printed referral packets for the K-3 highly capable program are available in all elementary schools, and on the Snohomish School District websites in English, Spanish and Russian. The completed referral packet is due Wednesday, November 8 and can be turned in at your home school or the Snohomish School District office (drop box located by the main entrance) located at 1601 Avenue D in Snohomish. SEF Annual Fundraising Auction - November 11
The Snohomish Education Foundation (SEF) invites you to join them at their Annual Fundraising Auction - “Power of Education Unites Us" - on Saturday, November 11, at the Tulalip Casino Resort.
The SEF annual auction is their main fundraising event to benefit the students, teachers, and families of the Snohomish School District. Since 1986, the Snohomish Education Foundation has funded and managed more than $3 million in scholarships to graduating high school seniors, funded more than $1.1 million in classroom grants to teachers and staff, and provided financial support for nearly $650,000 in Snohomish School District K-12 programs.

SVIE Snohomish Culture Night and Potluck - November 2
Join us at the Skykomish Valley Indian Education Snohomish Culture Night and Potluck!

Native American families involved in Skykomish Valley Indian Education (SVIE) and Native families interested in learning more about our program and signing up, are invited to join us. This is a chili and cornbread feed with families invited to bring traditional dishes for tasting.
SVIE is a federally funded program serving Native students in the Snohomish, Monroe, and Sultan school districts who are enrolled tribal members or have a parent/guardian or grandparent who is or was an enrolled tribal member. SVIE coordinates programs throughout the year for the entire community such as its holiday make and take, pow wow and activities at the longhouse during fair time. In the past these culture nights have been held to strengthen ties in our Native community and enroll new families.
