Where our Monomoy students are 'fin'tastic!
NO SCHOOL - MONDAY, JANUARY 16th
On this holiday, we are paying tribute to the Dr. King’s principles, perhaps best exemplified by his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963:
“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed, ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.’”
For more about this leader, go to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site of the National Park Service.
Americans are encouraged to observe this day as not just a day off work but also a “Day of Service” to others with appropriate civic, community, and service projects. Visit www.MLKDay.gov to find Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service projects across our country.
Ms. Cook's second grade class filled their fishbowl for the 15th time and added "Jack Attack" back to the display case!

"Music Counts Every Day" at HES - Each morning as we get the day started next week, we will be listening to 'IMAGINE' by John Lennon.
The celebration of Martin Luther King Jnr.
Martin Luther King Day is a Federal holiday held on the third Monday of January. It celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., an important American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to make black and white people feel equal in the United States.
"Imagine" is a song written and performed by the English musician John Lennon. The best-selling single of his solo career, the words ask us to imagine a world at peace without the barriers of borders or the divisions of religion and nationality, and to consider the possibility that the focus of people should be living a simple and uncomplicated life.
John Lennon was a member of the most famous rock and roll group of the 1960s.
The question this week is:
What was the name of the group that John Lennon was a member of?
Again, 2 water drops/bubbles for correct answers.

"HESnapshot" - Featured staff of the Week ... Our Intervention Staff for Reading and Math.
Gina Grenier - Math Interventionist
This is my 10th year living on Cape Cod and teaching at HES as a math interventionist. Before moving to here, we lived and raised our 3 children in Framingham and Wayland. When my youngest (now a senior at Johnson & Wales!) went off to Kindergarten, I started to substitute teach. I loved it so much I went back to school and got my MEd from Lesley University. Except for one year of classroom teaching, I have always been a math teacher. I taught in Framingham for 4 years and Somerville for 1 year before moving to Cape Cod.
I was born in Massachusetts but grew up in North Carolina. I feel I am very lucky to have spent time in two totally different parts of the United States as a child. I got my undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and even got to go to college with Michael Jordan for a year.
My husband and I live in Forestdale with our rescue beagle Rico. We love to spend our time kayaking, biking and going to Cotuit Kettleer baseball games in the summer. My favorite off Cape adventure is to go to Fenway Park to watch the Red Sox. We know we are so very lucky to live in such as beautiful place.
Norma Craffey - Reading Interventionist
Mrs. Craffey lives in Harwich with her two children Emmanuel and Eleanor, husband Steve and dog Lady. They moved to the Cape four years ago from Connecticut to be closer to family here on the Cape. Mrs. Craffey is currently pursuing her CAS in Literacy and Language at Mass General and Level I Wilson Reading Certification. Prior to teaching reading she was a Pre-K-2 classroom teacher in both Connecticut and New Hampshire. Her favorite moment in reading is when a student “cracks the code”- the pride is priceless. In her free time she loves to sail, swim and practice yoga.
