Dear Deer Hill Families,

In preparation for Election Day next week, Superintendent Shannon shared parameters about the role of schools in educating students as follows:

"As a public school district, it is our obligation and legal responsibility to educate students about the history of the United States, current events, and the importance of civic engagement. Our education system is specifically designed not to tell students what to think about issues, but rather, how to gather and examine information, think critically, engage with peers, and draw informed conclusions."

If you haven't already, I encourage you to read her letter in its entirety as it offers additional information relevant to the times ahead as well as resources that may be helpful in guiding conversations at home. Lastly, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Deer Hill Candy Drive: Deer Hill is bringing the candy drive back! This is a fantastic way to get the candy out of your house and into the hands of our current and past military personnel. It is also a great opportunity for students to recognize the importance and impact of a community donation event. In years past this drive has allowed us to donate up to 300 pounds of candy. We are looking forward to seeing what students can do this year to beat the record! The candy drive will be held from November 4th to November 8th. Calling All Veterans & Active Service Members: Deer Hill School is inviting family members of our community who have served or are serving in the military to join us for our Veterans Day Assembly on Tuesday November 12th from 9:30 - 10:15. Deer Hill students would like to thank and acknowledge you for your service. Please RSVP using this Google form if you'd like to attend!

Deer Hill Happenings

Back to Back Spirit Days: Deer Hill ended the month of October with 2 spirit days, Crazy Hat & Sock Day and PJ Day. There were lots of festivities to go along with the spirit days, including a staff mini pumpkin decorating contest judged by all students. Congratulations to our winners: 3rd place Mrs. Augustine with the Golden Snitch, 2nd place Mrs. Toppa with Dunkin Punkin, and 1st place Ms. Parrell with (no surprise!) Taylor Swift!
