From The Principal's Desk
It's been a fantastic first few weeks! I am incredibly proud of how our students have returned to school this year. The energy and enthusiasm they bring to the building daily is contagious. I commend our students for adapting to our new cell phone and bag policies; it demonstrates their commitment to supporting a focused and safe learning environment. We are excited to carry this positive momentum throughout the year and continue building a strong school community.
If there is ever anything I can do to support you or your child here at HHS, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Go Bronchos!
Mr. Curl
September is Suicide Prevention Month
September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness and open up conversations about mental health. Following our recent “It’s Real: Mental Health For Teens” assembly, where students gained insights into the importance of self-care and recognizing mental health struggles in themselves and their peers, we want to continue this important dialogue within our school community.
Key Takeaways from the Assembly:
- Understanding Mental Health: Students learned about common mental health challenges, how they can affect daily life, the value of self-care, and the importance of seeking help when needed.
- Identifying Warning Signs: The assembly highlighted key warning signs that someone might be struggling with, such as changes in behavior, withdrawal from activities, or expressing feelings of hopelessness.
- How to Help a Friend: Students were encouraged to support each other by listening, showing empathy, and guiding friends to trusted adults or resources.
- Seeking Support: Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Resources for Students and Families:
- School Counselors: Our counselors are here to provide confidential support and guidance.
- Jenny Carl (A-G): Email Mrs. Carl
- Jody Godman (H-O): Email Mrs. Godman
- Kimberly Redmer (P-Z): Email Mrs. Redmer
- Crisis Text Line: Text HELLO to 741741 for free, 24/7 support from a trained crisis counselor.
- National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Call 988 for immediate help if you or someone you know is in crisis.
Hope Squad Launch:
At the end of this month, we are excited to introduce HHS’s first-ever Hope Squad, a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program. This initiative will empower students to support one another and promote a culture of care and connection throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for more information about this program and how students can become part of it.
Continuing the Conversation at Home:
- Talk Openly About Mental Health: Encourage discussions at home. Ask your child what they learned from the assembly and how they feel about the topics discussed.
- Listen Without Judgment: Sometimes, just being present and listening can make a big difference.
- Reinforce Support Networks: Remind your child that they are not alone and that seeking help is okay.
Remember: It’s Okay Not to Be Okay
We are committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all students. Let’s work together to promote mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and support one another.
As your principal, I want you to know that I, along with our Assistant Principals, Ms. Wachowski and Mr. Lakin, are always here to support our students. Whether you need someone to talk to or guidance on how to help a friend, our doors are always open.
LEAD at HHS
This week, all of our students had an opportunity to lend their voice to what they want LEAD to look, sound, and feel like here at Holly High School. L.E.A.D is the Holly Area Schools PBIS program that encourages students to Listen to others, Encourage Everyone, Act Responsibly, and Display Kindness and Respect. During Advisory, in the past few weeks, we have been focusing our learning and discussions on bringing this to life at HHS. This past Tuesday, our students weighed in on what LEAD means to them in our Common Spaces (Hallways, Cafeteria), Bathrooms/Locker Rooms, Classrooms, and during Events. School leaders are breaking down their feedback and will share the results with students soon! Our students also gave us ideas on how to promote and reward our LEADers here at HHS, who regularly demonstrate these attributes.
2023-24 Yearbooks
Attention families! There are still several students who have not picked up their yearbook from the last school year. If you ordered (or are unsure if you ordered one) please see Mrs. Hill in the main office to check. If you had a student who graduated with the class of 2024, there are still many unclaimed books in our office. Please contact lisa.hill@hask12.org to arrange a pick up (a younger sibling in the school may pick up the book).

Is it La Tomatina?
Señoras Stimson & Hollopeter, along with the Spanish 3 and 4 students began the school year recreating the Tomatina here at Holly High School. A massive tomato fight that takes place each August in the town of Buñol, Spain became a water balloon fight at Holly High School. Students engaged in learning the culture and significance of the festival leading up to their event. ¡Viva España!
