Rāmere Friday 8th July Hōngongoi 2022 (T2: Week 10 of 10)
Our Tumuaki / Principal
- Half Way Through: We have now reached halfway through the 2022 year. Thank you, our school community, for your support and cooperation so far especially as we navigate the presence of COVID and other illnesses in our school and the wider community. We appreciate all that you do for us.
- On the Farm Poetry Anthology 2022: This week I have finished our On the Farm 2022 Poetry Anthology. I've really enjoyed reading the poems and matching up the different illustrations so that they link to what the poem is saying. Thank you so much to all contributors. Thank you to Mrs Jenny Coyle who did the final edit. See the list below for all the many writers and illustrators. Below that is the order form as well. We have sent our first print order away for 40 books.
- School Board Strategic Visioning: The School Board builds the school of tomorrow so on Wednesday the School Board and Senior Leadership Team gathered to begin the process of visioning into the future for our school. As part of this, they read the feedback from parents, staff and students. They also reflected on student achievement information. These documents and discussions help to inform the Strategic Plan, Annual Plan and then the budget. This process takes around six months to reflect, refocus and step forward into 2023 and beyond.
Thank You - Team Edendale
- Laura McVicar: A huge thank you to Laura McVicar for all her work with the senior school ski trip. What an effort to organise this and the many nuances that come with taking a group of children away skiing. Well done.

Lost Property - Check it Out
Over the term, we collect up quite a variety of items and they come to our lost property rack and box. We'd love to have them returned to their owners.
If you recognise anything from the photo below, pop in or remind your child to check and collect it.
Our lost property is under the sheltered entrance to the staff room.
We recommend ensuring all items are clearly named, especially second-hand items that often have names of previous owners in them.

At Edendale Primary School respect is demonstrated when we...
Are ready for our learning.
Work right through from start to finish.
Care for people, property and places.
Look after our belongings.
Involve ourselves in our school whanau community.
Every time our values are shown they make our school a great place to be for children and adults.

Term Four - Integrity Ponotanga
Principal's Values Award
This week the Principal/Tumuaki would like to acknowledge Charlie McCauley for showing our school values in class and at play.
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Kahu
Team Kahu’s MVP for Haepapa - Responsibility is Ollie Glynn.
Ollie is a friendly and helpful young man, who demonstrates our school values.
Ollie arrives on time to school each morning and gets himself organised for the day. He completes any tasks required of him before the morning bell, without complaint. Ollie works hard on his learning, in all subject areas, ensuring tasks are completed in the time given.
Ollie is an active member of our school and class, carrying out his senior duties diligently. Ollie always contributes to our class discussions, sharing his ideas, opinions and strategies, and takes the time to support others. He is also part of the Student Council and supports a range of school events and activities.
Ollie is a reliable and trustworthy student who takes responsibility for his actions. He works hard to achieve his goals on the sports field and in the classroom.
Thank you, Ollie, for always working hard, having a go and doing your best. You are a valued member of Team Kahu and we love having you as part of our team.
Keep up the excellent work!
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Pukeko
The MVP this week for Team Pukeko is Caitlyn Abbott.
Although she is still only a Year Two, this young lady is a super example of a student who consistently shows our value of Haepapa - Responsibility.
Caitlyn starts the day by making sure our class notice box and the heat-up box are in position out under the verandah for others to use. She is always quick to unpack her bag and get her learning tools ready for the day, often then helping with the morning stamps for homework books or putting chairs at tables.
Caitlyn always tries to do her best with her learning tasks, and she will follow the instructions carefully and she stays on task until her activity is finished. She is proud of her work and shows this by writing neatly and completing her illustrations colourfully.
Caitlyn wears our school uniform correctly, and she consistently carries out her class duties without needing reminders; she is also willing to show others how to do the different duties and will often do the duties of people who are absent
We are so lucky to have role-models like you in our team and in our school, Caitlyn - being able to show self-control of your words and actions in the positive way that you do, means that you are an Edendale Primary School student that we are very proud of.
Our Kaitiaki School Board
Enrolment Zone - Term Three
Enrolment at Edendale Primary School is governed by an enrolment scheme.
The School Board has 20 places available for out-of-zone students for the 2022 school year. The exact number of places is subject to the number of eligible in-zone enrolments received.
We have enrolment places for the first part of Term Three 2022 from Monday 25th July to Friday 30th September.
Applications for this period are due on Monday 25th July.
Information and application forms can be picked up at the school office. Applications can be made electronically through out website (www.edendaleps.school.nz) under Our School - Enrolments and Attendance. On the digital form, by ticking ‘Out of Zone’, you are deemed to be making an application.
If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out of zone places is required, it will be held on Tuesday 3rd May.
Parents will be informed of the outcome of the application and/or ballot as early as possible.

Our Home and School
Mid-Year Update - From the Chair
Firstly, thanks to all that supported our recent toilet paper fundraiser. After some COVID disruptions to fundraising activities last year, it is great to be back underway.
Thanks to Jeanette Howe for a stellar job in running a seamless fundraiser, as well as to Vetco for assisting with storage and transport.
I must acknowledge the phenomenal support of our rural community, as even with the disruptions to our normal fundraising activities, the ongoing donation of cull stock has been crucial in providing ongoing income to support our school.
Looking ahead to Term 3, we will again be running our highly successful Whittaker’s Chocolate Fundraiser. It will be the same format as previous years, and we are extremely grateful for the support across the school and community helps to make this so profitable.
Following feedback at the end of last year that providing support in the classroom is where we could make a difference, we have made an ongoing commitment to providing financial support for more teacher aide hours in the classroom. These funds are hoped to be an annual contribution for the school, then distributed based on the school’s assessment of need.
We have also provided funds to replace 5 of the school iPads. This has been matched by the BOT, resulting in 10 new iPads in the school technology system. We aim to be able to do this on an annual basis, to provide replacements as the school’s devices head towards the end of life, ensuring our student's tools are capable and relevant.
Each term applications are made by the Edendale School staff and the Home and School committee meets to review and approve these.
Anyone who is keen to learn more about what we do, or be involved is welcome to come along to these meetings. We are fortunate to have a friendly and hard-working committee and I would like to thank you also.
Cattle - Thank You
A big thank you to the following farms for their support of the Home and School by donating cattle.
