Weekly update - 6.9.24
Welcome back
We've had a great first week back at Low Ash. The children have come back full of energy and are settling in well to their new classes. This time of year can be hard for some, but pupils have been a credit to you and the school this week and should feel very proud of themselves. Thank you to all of those who attended the curriculum sessions this week. All information will be sent home electronically if you could not attend.
Well done to this week's stars of the week who are pictured above. They have all had exceptionally good weeks.
Attendance
This week's school attendance = 97%
Key Stage 1 class of the week - 2M
Key Stage 2 classes of the week - 3B, 5E and 6LH
As always we aim for at least 96% attendance so this week have achieved our target.
The tables below are quite powerful in highlighting the importance of attendance and punctuality.
You might have heard about the National Framework for Penalty Notices which was released over the summer break. Click on the link below to take you to the Attendance page of our website where you can find updated information about Penalty Notices (fines).
Asda Cashpot for schools
Just by doing your normal shopping at Asda, you can now raise money for school. Low Ash has signed up to the Asda Cashpots for school scheme. All you need to do is download and sign up to the Asda rewards app and select Low Ash Primary as your school. Each time you shop at Asda and scan the app a % of the amount you spend will be donated to Low Ash. Please also share this with family and friends as anyone can take part and help us raise some much needed funds!
Zones of Regulation
You might hear your children talking about being 'in the blue/green/red/yellow zone as we introduce Zones of Regulation across Low Ash.
The Zones of Regulation is an internationally renowned intervention which helps children manage their emotions. After trialling the approach in one class last year, we are introducing this across the school this year. The zones provide a framework for our children to develop self-regulation. Children learn to identify emotions, recognise events that might make them move to a different zone and use the tools they have learnt to help them remain or move to a particular zone to help them regulate how they are feeling.
What are the different Zones?
Blue Zone: low level of arousal, not ready to learn, feels sad, sick, tired, bored
Green Zone: calm state of alertness, optimal level to learn, feels happy, calm, focused
Yellow Zone: heightened state of alertness, feels frustrated, worried, silly/wiggly, excited
Red Zone: heightened state of alertness and intense emotions, not an optimal level for learning, out of control, feels mad/angry, terrified, yelling/hitting, elated
We teach the children that everyone experiences all of the zones. The Red and Yellow Zones are not ‘bad’ or ‘naughty’ zones. All of the zones are expected at one time or another. We will show them that the Blue Zone, for example, is helpful when you are trying to fall asleep.
Look out for information soon.
