Back To School Night Thank You!
What Are We Learning At SJG?
How often do your children come home and give you the answers of "SCHOOL WAS FINE" or "NOTHING" when you ask them what they did today? We recognize that and now our students are informing all the parents about what they are learning by completing this section of the newsletter! Each week, different students from each class will collaborate and put together what they are excited to share about their learning. Below are our reporters for the week!
Kindergarten (Riley, Emmie, Noelia): We are learning shapes using blocks. We are learning about T, Top, T (sound). We are also skipping, jumping, tip toeing and galloping. We had music and art.
1st Grade (Amelia, Stella, Antonio): We are practicing counting using snap cubes and shapes up to 10. We chose 3 look books and 2 read books. The look books we look at the pages and pictures. The read books we read the words. We are also learning about kindness and the golden rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated. We should all be kind!
2nd Grade (Emilia, Anthony): We are learning about math, spelling, and having a growth mindset. We are also learning about kindness and friendship!
3rd Grade (Aubrey, Gavin, Jude): We are learning multiplication and we are learning about place value. We had gym, art, and music. Today we finished are diagnostics in reading and math. We also learned about 9/11.
4th Grade (Emelia, Benjamin, Adelina): In math class we are learning place value. In ELA we are learning how to write friendly letters. In reading we are learning context clues and different types of questions. We did a "Figure Me Out" project and a "Selfie" project. In History/SS we learned about 9/11.
5th Grade (Julianna, Giulia): In ELA we are reading "Wonder," and making Wonder heads with our own personality. In math we are making posters of how to have a better attitude about math. We are also going over multiplication.
Phys Ed (Samantha): In Grade 5 Phys Ed, we learned new games and activities. We played a game called triangle tag and a game called hoop jump. We added new stretches as well.
Art (Peyton): In 3rd grade art we are watching the minions version of the rules. We also are learning how we are going to do free time this year, like we have legos, and blocks. We also have a clean table. We call it that because if one person is done painting and the rest of the table is not then that one person can go there. The last thing is we are getting new markers. That is mostly all the things we are doing in Art.
Music (Adriana): In 4th grade music we are learning a new game in music that Mrs. Finnen made up over the summer. Every student gets an instrument and Mrs. Finnen plays a note and there is a poison rhythm. If she plays it and we play it, we will be out. We also have been playing our recorders and learning a new note called "c". Last year we only knew the notes "b, a, g."
Media (Natalie): The first day of Grade 5 media Mrs. Sinopoli took us on a tour of the library. Some new things in the library are couches to read in a quiet space, new 3D printers that are easier to use, and many more awesome things.
ESL (Dylan): We are learning about English and how to type hard words. Also we are working on a personal narrative were we tell histories that have happened to us, that we can't forget because something good happened or something bad happened.
Our 5th Grade Pledge Leader For The Week!
Maison did a wonderful job this week and on our opening day reciting The Pledge of Allegiance as well as our kindness quote for the day. Thank you for being awesome Maison!
Late Student Sign In- IMPORTANT!
In the event that your child arrives at school late, please park your vehicle and come into the building to sign them in. It is essential for us to maintain accurate records of student attendance. Therefore, parents are no longer permitted to have students ring the bell and enter the building unaccompanied when they are late. Thank you for your cooperation.
Morning Parking Reminder- IMPORTANT!
We would like to kindly remind everyone that parking is not permitted on the Boulevard before our driveway entrance in the morning. Parking in this area obstructs our ability to manage traffic effectively. We appreciate your cooperation in refraining from parking on the Boulevard before our driveway entrance in the morning. Thank you for your understanding.

DISTRICT NEWS
New Elementary School Parent / Teacher Conference Dates and Times!
The district is going to pilot a new schedule for elementary school conferences for the 2024 school year. In coordination with community input as well as planning with the principals and staff, we have generated a schedule that we believe will be more efficient and effective.
Conferences will be held on Wednesday 11/13 from 3:00-4:30, and then on Thursday 11/14 from 1:30-7:30. Following conferences we send a survey to gather feedback from families on their thoughts on the new schedule, which should help us determine if to move forward with the new times or continue to work towards finding a more effective plan.

NURSE'S CORNER
Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!! Things to Remember from The SJG Health Office.
When your child is ill, please call the school by 8:15am to report an absence. The attendance line is available 24/7. Please let the school know why your child is absent and be as specific as possible. If you take your child to the doctor, please bring documentation from the doctor so as to provide better care here at school. Extended absences or PE excuses require a doctor’s note.
If your child is ill please keep children home for 24hrs symptoms free. This includes temperature 100.4 or above, vomiting, diarrhea, consistent coughing, runny nose etc. This is part of our school doctor’s standing orders.
Students in many of our classes have serious food allergies. A child with a serious allergy can suffer a reaction merely by touching their particular allergen. Please review for yourselves and with your children the safety guidelines we are using throughout our district elementary schools. This letter was sent home and is also posted on my web page.
Students will have the following health screenings over the course of the year based on grade level state requirements: vision, hearing, height, weight, and blood pressure. Scoliosis screenings will be done in the spring in 5th grade only. Appropriate referrals will be sent to parents as needed.
NJ Family Care and NJ Kid Care Insurance - This insurance is for families or college students not covered by any insurance. For further information go to http://www.njfamilycare.org or call my office.
