Dear Beck Community,
The 1st Marking Period is completed and Report Cards will be available in Genesis Parent Portal on November 18 but remember, grades are only one indicator of your child's growth, development and progress in these middle school years. The ages of 11-14 are full of physical, psychological, emotional and social changes; the only time we change more in our lives is birth through 3!
- 6th grade caregivers: You are most likely experiencing a wide range of behaviors as your student adjusts to the expectations of middle school. They are meeting lots of new peers and friendships may be changing. Some days you child may seem to have everything under control and other days you may be left wondering how they (and YOU) will make it through their 6th grade year, let alone middle school. Consider closely monitoring social media and group chats.
- 7th grade caregivers: You are most definitely experiencing social and academic ups & downs. A group of 7th graders shows the full range of physiological, emotional and social development. Some children are standing eye-to-eye with full grown adults and some children don't look much different than they did in 6th grade. Socializing is EVERYTHING with a lot of energy and emotion swirling around as children navigate friendships, frenemies and crushes. Keep talking with your children about internet safety and cyberbullying.
- 8th grade caregivers: Some days you may wonder if 8th grade can just end early and send them off to high school. Other days you will want them to be a 6th grader again so high school and graduation and college are in the distant future. 8th graders may struggle to manage the deepening socio-emotional dynamics, the academic workload and the anxiety & excitement of 'growing up.' Ask your children about peer pressure and help them with positive decision-making.
All the Best,
Rebecca Metzger, Principal
Ninh Nguyen, Assistant Principal
Nysheria Sims, Assistant Principal
