News from the Pirate Ship

Dear Pirate Family,

We enjoyed seeing so many of you this week at Freshmen Orientation and Open House. We are looking forward to seeing all of our Pirates on the first day of school--- Monday, August 26.

Doors will open for carpool and bus students at 6:35 AM while student drivers may begin entering at 6:45AM. Students must be in class by 7:15AM.

Since joining Corinth Holder High School on July 1, I have loved getting to know the school and meeting many of our students and parents. As school begins, I look forward to meeting even more of you. I have also appreciated your patience and feedback as I have learned about the school. One of my many goals is to improve communication and responsiveness. To this end, I will be sending out a weekly edition of "News from the Pirate Ship."

For the first ten days, we will operate on a 30 minute Advisory Schedule.

ATTENTION, STUDENTS WITH LATE ARRIVAL!

For students with late arrival, we need you to attend on Monday for Advisory for important attendance purposes. After Advisory, students may wait for their next class in media center, or student, may leave campus through the front entrance and return for their first scheduled class.

Bus Transportation

All individuals who received school bus transportation last school year, or have requested schoolbus transportation for the 2024-2025 year prior to Tuesday, August 13, 2024, your child’s busassignment has been completed and is ready to be reviewed in the Edulog Parent Portal app.

If you are interested in viewing your child’s bus assignment today - including your child’s school busnumber, stop times, and bus location - you must download the Edulog Parent Portal app on your smart device.

To download the Edulog app, please:

1. Download the Edulog Parent Portal from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

2. Search for “Edulog Parent Portal” and choose the app with the white bus on the teal background. Once you have the app downloaded, sign up using your email address.

To register your student(s) you will simply need to:

1. Click on the STUDENT LIST tab by selecting the “+” icon or the ADD STUDENT button.

2. Follow the prompts. You must have the following 5 pieces of information to ensure security.

   1. Student’s First Name (spelled correctly)

   2. Student’s Last Name (spelled correctly)

   3. School to which the student is assigned.

   4. Student’s date of birth

   5. Student ID Number, assigned by the school district.

Carpool Information

• The carpool drop off requires everyone to drive behind the school where they will be directed by on-duty staff to one of three drop off lines.

• Students are not permitted to leave their vehicle until 6:35 am. Students will not be allowed to enter the building prior to that time. Students can not be dropped off prior to 6:35 am. Students will be given a signal indicating when they can exit their vehicle.

• Upon entering the school through the middle gym door, students will be screened at the open gate system and directed to the Auxiliary Gym where they will remain until the 7:00 am bell.

• After dropping off students, drivers are not permitted to pass other vehicles. Drivers are to remain behind the car in front unless directed otherwise by a staff member.

• Just like the morning carpool drop off, the afternoon carpool pick up requires everyone to drive behind the school and pull into the gym parking lot where there are two traffic lines. As you arrive to pick up your student, each traffic line should pull all the way up to the parking lot exits so as many cars as possible can pull into the parking lot.

Johnston County Public Schools (JCPS) is excited to announce the new North Carolina Student Information System (NCSIS),InfiniteCampus! Just as PowerSchool did in the past, this system offers enhanced features for monitoring your child’s educational progress with a user-friendly mobile experience, and more.

Two of the features, The Campus Parent and Campus Student portals, provide real-time access to grades, attendance, assignments, and schedules. These tools facilitate seamless communication between parents, teachers and students, keeping everyone informed about school activities.

JCPS parents can request access to the Parent Portal by completing the Request for Parent Portal Access Form. Please be sure to provide the most accurate information (full name, phone number, and email address) when completing the form. It will take 3-5 business days to process the request.

Directions for Students to Access Schedule in Infinite Campus

The window to request a schedule change is August 23-30. The form to request a change will be available on this page during that time. Please read all the information provided here BEFORE submitting a request. If you have any additional questions, please contact your counselor.

Process for Schedule Corrections

A link to the schedule correction request will be posted here when schedules are live. This form must be submitted through your JCPS Student Email. The schedule change request form can be submitted August 22-30, 2024.

Please read the information below carefully before submitting your request, as each student may submit only one request.

Please note that schedule changes will only be made for the following reasons:

• Course was previously taken and passed

• Increase in rigor (where available seats permit the change)

• Hole in schedule

• Student does not meet the prerequisites for the course

• Student is scheduled for same course twice

With approximately 2,300 students presently enrolled, most class sections are full and changes to schedules will be very limited.

Medication at School

This is a quick reminder of School Board Policy Code: 6125 (Administering Medicines to Students).

This policy covers the process for administering medications in detail, but the key detail I want everyone to keep in mind is that a health care practitioner (licensed medical professionals who are legally authorized to prescribe medications under NC law, such as doctors of medicine, doctors of osteopathic medicine, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners) MUST sign the Physicians' Order Form prior to medication administration at school. Parent/guardian signatures are required as well, but without the health care practitioner signature, medications cannot be administered.This includes ALL over the counter (OTC) medications.

Every year, we ask our families to review and sign off on documents pertaining to their child's learning environment for the upcoming school year. Many of these documents can now be signed digitally. We ask that our parents and guardians review the documents listed below and sign the necessary items for each of their students.
