Principal's Message
We've had a great start to the 2022/2023 school year! It's been wonderful to see all of our returning students and welcome our new families. The teachers, staff and I have been working hard to prepare for a very productive, joyful year of learning. Our school focus this year will be on all academic areas with an extra emphasis on AVID, math concepts and procedures, English Language Development, and restorative practices. Also, we will be rolling out more after school enrichment opportunities this year. Stay tuned!
I hope to see all of our families at Back to School Night on August 30! Your partnership is important to your child's success. I am honored that you trust our school with your child's education.
Follow Handy Elementary school on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for weekly happenings at Handy! Please scroll down to see a complete list of August and September events.
I encourage every Handy scholar to give their best effort each and every day because: Learning today makes a brighter tomorrow!
With gratitude,

Handy Scholars Dress for Success in School Uniform
Educational research shows that at schools where students wear school uniforms, there are decreases in discipline, gang involvement and bullying, and increases in safety, ease of going to school, confidence and self esteem. Our Hornets look sharp and scholarly in school uniform. On Wednesdays, all students are encouraged to wear an AVID or college t-shirt with uniform bottoms. On Fridays, students may wear a Handy spirit shirt along with jeans with no rips or holes. Jeans are for Fridays only!
If you need assistance with school uniforms, please fill out a School Bell application in our front office to receive free uniforms.

Free Tutoring Support for 4th-12th graders: Paper Education
Orange Unified School District proudly offers Paper Education for all 4th-12th graders.
Paper is a secure, online tutoring service that provides students with unlimited, 24/7 academic support. Whether they’re stuck on homework, studying for a test, or need someone to read and make suggestions to their essays, there will always be experts available online to assist students in over 200 subjects and more than 4 languages.
Paper tutors have been specially trained to conduct expert, academic support in a secure, chat-based platform. With a commitment to helping students learn, they’ll never give students answers, but rather interact with them in an encouraging tone to lead them forward.
This is a free service that we’re providing, so students are encouraged to use it as much as they need, whenever they need. Our teachers also have accounts and will be able to review all student activity to see what they’re working on and provide more targeted instruction as needed.
If you’d like to learn more about Paper you can sign up for a Paper hosted Parent Info Session, available in both English and Spanish. Or if you’d like to speak to a member of the Paper team directly, you can reach them at parents@paper.co.
To see Paper and the help it offers firsthand, we encourage you to login with your students. To get started, simply visit Paper’s student login page, type your school’s name, and log in via Clever using your school credentials
We’re thrilled to offer our students the unlimited, 24/7 support that Paper provides and we can’t wait to see what we’re able to accomplish together.
