Newtown Public Schools
Weekly Update - November 25, 2024
Message from the Superintendent
Dear Newtown Families, Faculty and Staff,
Last week’s Board of Education meeting was packed with meaningful and engaging discussions. In addition to sharing our operational goals, as well as my goals as Superintendent for this first year, we continue to move forward with many policy changes. The Board’s Policy Subcommittee is working diligently to update all of our existing policies to ensure that they are in compliance with state statute and that they are clear, accessible, and effective in supporting a safe and productive learning environment for all. Streamlining our policy book, will bring several important benefits such as:
Consistency: Simplified policies help reduce misunderstandings and inconsistencies in enforcement. By having clear guidelines, schools can apply policies fairly and equitably across the district.
Improved Compliance: Streamlining policies eliminates redundant or confusing language, which can often lead to unintentional non-compliance.
Adaptability: Assigning items as policies or regulations in a manner that allows the district to more easily update and adapt them to meet changing needs, ensures they remain relevant and effective.
I encourage you to review the policy changes as they are brought forward to the Board of Education. You can access Board and Sub-committee agendas and minutes by clicking on the link.
As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to express my deep gratitude for the privilege of serving this wonderful community of faculty, staff, and families. We may not always be perfect but we strive to partner with you and to always do what is in the best interest of our students. Thank you for all of your support - it is greatly appreciated.
Your Thanksgiving may be celebrated in different ways, or perhaps not at all, depending on individual traditions and beliefs. No matter how you spend this time, it is an opportunity to recognize and honor the spirit of gratitude, generosity, and togetherness that unites us all and I wish each of you a restful and meaningful time with your loved ones.
Since this is a very short week, I will not be sending out an NPS Weekly Update on December 2nd. Look for your next update on the 9th.
Warm regards,
Anne

PTA Support Makes Our Schools Great!
More than just fundraising!
Did you know that joining your PTA offers several benefits for both you and our school community? Our PTAs do many wonderful things throughout the school year that support and enhance the educational experience for our students. In addition to raising funds for educational programs and classroom resources, members have the opportunity to have their voices and ideas heard, meet new people and build connections within the school and greater community, as well as gain leadership skills that can be both personally and professionally valuable. In addition, being involved in your PTA gives you a closer look at what is happening in your child’s school by participating in or organizing events that foster a positive school culture.
You can find a link to each school's PTA by clicking on this link.
Thank you for your support!
