Schurr Announcements
SCHURR Expectation of the Month: Uplifting
“"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
Attendance Rate: Our latest attendance rate was 93.67%. Please continue to go out of your way to show your students your supportive, uplifting spirit. Let's work hard to keep our attendance rate above 95%, our school safe, and our spirit positive. Please greet students with your uplifting Spartan Spirit and engaging 4Cs learning environments. Remind them that they are loved at Schurr. Thank you all for making Schurr special.
Autism Awareness Month: Ms. Ferguson shared the following video regarding Autism Awareness:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YX-qhuXXuF8
If you have some "sponge time" in class, this may be an ideal video to spread awareness of our neuro-diverse students. Thank you for your collaborative support and uplifting Spartan spirit.
AVID's Annual Door Decorating Contest: Congratulations to Sonia Lopez's class for winning the much-coveted AVID Annual Door Decorating Contest. The critical thinking, collaboration, and communication were evident in the creation of the UCLA Bruin-inspired door. Congratulations!
Extended 4th Period: Thank you to everyone who submitted their grades on time. We will work on calculating who qualifies for Extended 4th Period this week. Thank you for your hard work.
Phone Confiscation: Please inform students that we are confiscating phones from students if they are tardy and/or truant during instructional time using their phones. Thank you for your support.
SBAC Mathematics (April 8 - April 11): Our 11th graders will be taking the Math SBAC next week. We intentionally gave our 11th graders two weeks off so that they can rest up for the Mathematics SBAC. There will be a block schedule so that 9th, 10th, and 12th graders have time to complete assignments, essays, and/or tests. For the 11th graders that week, the priority is the Math SBAC. If you have 11th graders, please refrain from overly rigorous assignments that week so that students can preserve their cognitive energy for the SBAC. Thank you for your collaborative support and understanding. We will follow our current Block Schedule:
- Tuesday, April 8, Periods 1, 2, 3
- Wednesday, April 9, Periods 4, 5, 6
- Thursday, April 10, Periods 1, 2, 3
- Friday, April 11, Periods 4, 5, 6
Tardy Sweeps: Please remind students that we conduct random tardy sweeps. Please remind them that we will take our "cell phone" boxes to our tardy sweeps moving forward. Thank you.

Gratitude: Thank you to Mando Hernandez and the Eco-Marathon Team for representing Schurr High School, MUSD Career Tech Education (CTE), and Southern CA so well at the Eco-Marathon in Indianapolis. Schurr came in 6th Place overall against over 100 teams from universities all over the country and world. We are immensely proud of your critical thinking, collaboration, and communication as you created a highly efficient vehicle. We appreciate you representing so well.
Gratitude: Thank you to Desiree Galan and Spartan Friends for an uplifting, supportive, inclusive Buddy Walk on Friday, April 4th. Schurr High students and staff showed up to dance, uplift, create art, and have fun together to celebrate all our neuro-diverse population. We are privileged to work at a school that celebrates the multiplicity of ways of being in our world. Thank you for your critical thinking, collaboration, and uplifting support for our students.
Gratitude: Thank you for supportively greeting students and each other when you first interact. That small moment can make a student's and person day. A "hello, ____" or "good morning, ____" goes a long way to create a safe, positive learning culture. Thank you for your uplifting Spartan spirit.
Gratitude: Thank you for continuing to hand out Spartan Bucks to students who are showing Schurr values and expectations (Supportive, Courageous, Hardworking, Uplifting, Responsible, and Respectful) and the 4Cs (Critical Thinker, Collaborator, Communicator, and Creator).
