E-Matters January 2025

Dear North Penn Community,
I am excited to share some news about the future of North Penn High School! As many of you know, our beloved school has been a cornerstone of our community for decades, serving generations of students and families. Finally, after years of planning, Phase 1 of a multi-year project is out to bid and work is scheduled to begin in May 2025.
For funding of the first phase, the Board of School Directors passed a borrowing parameters resolution not to exceed $15 million. Initially, funding models showed NPSD would need to borrow $30 million, but because of sound financial planning we are able to use funds allocated for capital projects to begin the project.
Phase 1 renovations mark a significant step forward in transforming North Penn High School into a state-of-the-art facility that will inspire and empower students for years to come. Phase 1 will include:
Modernized Learning Environments: Classrooms in K-Pod will be upgraded with fresh finishes, improved lighting, and cutting-edge HVAC systems to create comfortable and dynamic spaces for learning.
Sustainable and Efficient Infrastructure: Energy-efficient upgrades such as LED lighting, modern HVAC systems, and new windows and roofs will not only enhance the building’s functionality but also reduce energy consumption and costs, reflecting our commitment to sustainability.
Enhanced Facilities: The natatorium will receive a much-needed makeover, including new plastering, starting blocks, diving boards, lighting, and mechanical systems. Locker rooms will also be refurbished. These updates will provide our students with top-notch facilities to learn, train and compete.
Thoughtful Planning for Continuity: To ensure minimal disruption to students’ education, temporary classrooms will be set up in key areas so that learning continues seamlessly throughout the renovation process.
Improved Accessibility and Safety: The renovations will include updates to make the school more accessible and safer for everyone who walks through its doors.
This initial phase will be complete in the summer of 2026 and is just the beginning of a project that will impact and improve every pod of the building, add classroom and performance space and provide for more fields. By the time the dust settles and work is complete in 2030, North Penn High School will be a shining example of innovation, collaboration and community pride.
Of course there will be challenges and concessions that will need to be made along the way. At times, programs and sports will be disrupted. For example, our water polo teams will not have access to the pool during the upcoming fall season and they will be relocated offsite. Student parking at times during construction will be impacted and there may be fewer spots. And the auditorium will have limited seating and its use limited until the space is renovated.
I ask for patience from our students, staff and community members as we embark on this project, which is much more than bricks and mortar; it’s an investment in our students, our staff and our community. We invite you to join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter. Check our renovations webpage to stay informed. Together, we are building a brighter future for North Penn!
With gratitude,
Todd Bauer
Superintendent
North Penn School District

NPSD Wins Budget Award for 10th Year in a Row
The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded NPSD its Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for excellence in budget presentation for fiscal year 2024-2025. This is the tenth consecutive year that NPSD has earned this award, a demonstration of the district’s commitment to fiscal integrity and transparency in the budget process. NPSD is one of only five school districts in Pennsylvania to receive this award, and the only in Montgomery County. There are only 62 school districts in North America who have ever received the Meritorious Budget Award ten times or more.
