Aitkin High School Newsletter

This has been a wonderful year of getting to know our students, families and staff better. Our 7th graders have grown and adjusted to the high school and our seniors have become young adults right in front of us. It seems that school just started and we had an entire year in front of us. Now we are in May getting ready for the last month of school with spring sports in full swing and Graduation in just a few short weeks. We have completed class registration for next year, the ACT and MCA's. In April our talented students performed the Bye Bye Birdie musical and it was FANTASTIC! It is so fun to see our students participating in so many different activities. This month I want to highlight our seniors in their activities and sports. If I missed anyone, I apologize. We have an amazing group of students and staff and it is so rewarding to see their dedication and passions. Before you know it May 31st will be here. I hope you all find some time to relax and enjoy your wonderful children this summer.

Due to several students needing to leave 6th and/or 7th period many days in April/May due to different events, we will be having a different schedule for a few days in May to help students get to their 6th and 7th hour classes. Students will follow our same schedule on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

On May 7th & 14th we will be switching 1st and 2nd hour with 6th and 7th hour:

6th hour 9:18-10:12

3rd hour 10:16-11:10

4th hour 11:14-12:26

5th hour 12:30-1:24

2nd hour 1:28-2:22

• May 17th - Concert Choir, Madrigals, Handbells and Solos/Ensembles @ 7:30 (H.S. Aud.)

• May 20th - Spring Band Concert @ 7:30 pm (H.S. Auditorium)

• Monday, May 27th - No School

• May 30th- Last day of school

• May 31st - Graduation Practice @ Veteran's Field @ 9:30 am
  

• May 31st - Graduation @ 7:00 pm @ Veteran's Field

Graduation will be on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 7:00 pm at the AHS football field. Parents and visitors, please bring your own chair or blanket to sit on. In the event of bad weather, graduation will be moved to the high school gym. A letter will be sent out to families of seniors in the next few weeks with more detailed information.

The Minnesota Department of Education has launched the Statewide Testing Redesign Survey. Your voice and the perspectives of parents are important to this effort.

The survey asks about how you receive, interpret, and use statewide assessment results. Your feedback will help MDE ensure the results from the new assessments students take beginning in Spring 2025 are as clear and useful as possible.

The survey is now open for submissions until May 19.

Summer School will be for students in grades 7-12 by invitation only. Letters will be mailed to families soon.

Students that are enrolled in the Alternative School full time and have not completed their required credits for the year will be required to attend summer school in June. Progress reports will be mailed home indicating if summer school is required or not.

On May 2nd juniors and seniors were able to participate in a money management simulation. There were around 25 different volunteers from the community that helped students with the simulation.
