Congratulations K.C. Mitchell, Executive Director, Special Education
The Yakima School District is pleased to announce the selection of K.C. Mitchell as Executive Director of Special Education Services, effective July 1, 2024.
After graduating from Eisenhower High School, K.C. attended YVCC earning an A.A. in early childhood education. He earned his B.A. in elementary education from Central Washington University, including an endorsement in special education. He received his master’s degree in administration from Heritage College.
K.C. taught elementary school for the West Valley School District, was an assistant principal in the Sunnyside School District, and served as principal of McKinley Elementary School and Ridgeview Elementary School for the Yakima School District. In the fall of 2021, K.C. returned to teaching in a self-contained classroom at Gilbert Elementary School. Currently, he serves as the Assistant Director for Student Services for the Yakima School District.
K.C. brings 27 years of successful administrative and teaching experience to the position of Director of Student Services. His wide and varied experience has helped hone his devotion, advocacy, and ability to break learning barriers for disenfranchised and underserved students and families. K.C. has an intense focus on meeting the needs of and building success for students, families, and staff. He is passionate about service and brings quality leadership and relationship-building skills to his new position.
K.C. has been married to his wife Amanda for 31 years. They have one daughter, Chloe, who works as a paraeducator for the Yakima School District. He enjoys woodworking, outdoor activities, and finding bargains at thrift shops. His greatest enjoyment comes from spending time with his family. K.C. is proud and excited to serve the students, families, and staff of YSD in his new role.
