BIOLOGY Team After-School Review Session
The SOLs are quickly approaching! To help prepare for this, the biology team will host an after-school review session on Wednesday, April 23rd. We strongly encourage everyone to attend if they are able. Food will be available at the end of the session and transportation will be provided through activity busses. If you are interested in attending, please complete the Microsoft form attached below. If you have any questions, please reach out to your biology teacher.
Saturday school is being offered on April 5th, 12th, and 26th, and May 3rd and 10th to address chronic absenteeism. Students will be able to make up classwork, homework, and test corrections through Edmentum.

Principals Advisory Council (PAC) - Next meeting date is May 21, 2025 (no meeting in April)
The PAC serves both a representative and advisory function to assist and support our school Principal and Leadership Team (as outline in PWCS Regulation 230.01-1) by:
- Developing the school plan to include objectives, strategies, and action plans.
- Aligning the school plan and action plans with the division Strategic Plan;
- Aligning the school budget with the school plan;
- Reviewing the alignment of the school professional development plan with the school plan;
- Monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the plan; and
- Assuming other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the principal and school.

National Alliance on Mental Illness -NAMI ON CAMPUS
I am proud to announce that Freedom High School has become part of the NAMNI on Campus family. NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for millions affected by mental illness.
NAMI on Campus club is a student-led, student-run mental health club. It is an incredible leadership opportunity for student leaders. The club promotes mental health awareness and education to support high school students through their transition to college and beyond.
Education and awareness are important, especially when it comes to mental health. By bringing a NAMI On Campus club to Freedom High School and the community, we became part of the change in a positive way. About NAMI:

I am Natalie Maggitt, CEO of nonprofit iThriveHer, and proud community partner of SPARK and Prince William County Public Schools. We are excited to offer an inspiring and educational spring break opportunity for high school girls, and I would love to extend this invitation to the students at Freedom High School.
On Friday, April 18th, iThriveHer will host our Head in the Clouds event at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Skills Center in Arlington, VA, from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. This free event is designed for girls in grades 8-12 and aims to spark their interest in STEAM careers, particularly in cloud computing and technology.

Event Highlights:
Learning session on cloud engineering and generative artificial intelligence (AI).
Hands-on cloud interactive exhibits.
Scavenger hunt.
Opportunities to learn about roles within cloud computing and future career possibilities.
A live Q&A session with Amazonians, who will share their career journeys and insights into working at AWS.
Transportation and lunch provided (pizza or Chick-fil-A; students may bring their own lunch if preferred).
Transportation Details:
Students will be picked up at Northern Virginia Community College, Woodbridge at 9:00 AM and dropped off at the same location by 2:00 PM.
We are only accepting 15 students for this exclusive event, so spots are limited! Transportation will make it convenient for Freedom High School students to participate.

To Arrange An Early Dismissal

- Early dismissals are only permitted prior to 1:30 pm. After that time, you will have to wait for normal dismissal times/procedures. This helps ensure a safe and smooth dismissal for all.

Q: How do I order my cap and gown?
A: Jostens is the graduation vendor for the Class of 2025. Please visit Jostens’s website to purchase a cap and gown. https://www.jostens.com
Students planning to participate in the graduation ceremony will need to have a cap and gown.
Q: I have guests who will need accessible seating. What should I do?
A: Accessible seating will be available at the venue. Space is limited. Upon arrival, please speak to school security for further directions.
Q: Will guests need tickets in advance to attend?
A: No. This year we have decided not to use tickets.
Q: What time do I need to arrive on graduation day?
A: Graduates should arrive no later than 1:15 pm. Once on-site students will be directed to the holding area as they wait for the processional to begin. Spectators should plan to arrive no later than 1:30 pm.

Prince William County Schools - Library (New management system)
Prince William County Public Schools is introducing new features to the parent controls for library materials within PWCS’ library management system.
Starting the week of April 27, parents will receive notifications about the student selected library materials checked out by their student that day.
These emails will be sent automatically to the primary parent/guardian email address, ensuring you stay informed about your student’s reading activities. This feature will be activated for all PWCS students. Please note that there is no option to opt out of these email communications.

PWCS is seeking Tutors (16 years and older) to provide English and Math remediation support to identified students grade 3-8. Work will be performed at nearby elementary and middle schools. The rate of pay is $15.83 per hour.
Requirements • Be at least 16 years old • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA High school student candidates must complete the following for consideration: • PWCS Substitute/Temporary Application; • Print a HS Student Tutor Employment Reference and Eligibility Form and submit the form to a current teacher, school administrator, counselor, and/or Ed Rising sponsor; and • Apply to posted tutor position(s).
