TIPS Journal Mar 1, 2024
on how the school year is going
Greetings from Tokyo International Progressive School
A beloved teacher and co-worker, Ms. Saki Koh, has let us know she will not be returning to TIPS after the summer. Ms. Koh has been a very popular teacher with all ages of students at TIPS because of the friendly demeanor she uses while keeping the learning standards very high. Ms. Koh has served TIPS in many capacities, most recently as Career Counselor, Student Council sponsor and curriculum coordinator.
If Ms. Koh has been a part of your child's experience at TIPS, please let her know how appreciated she is. We wish Ms. Koh the very best in her career as she moves forward. Our door is always open to you, Ms. Koh!
The Career Counselor role will be filled by Ms. Aki Takeuchi next year, and the Student Council will be sponsored by Ms. Xaida Zyvatkauskas.
As we say good-bye to Ms. Koh, we are delighted to take on board the incoming teacher, Mr. Max Ebert. You may read more about Mr. Ebert's education, credentials and experience below. Welcome aboard, Mr. Ebert!
In March our grade 12 students will take the California Achievement Test in math and reading, which University of Nebraska High School requires to validate the coursework they take to earn a diploma with UNHS. The test is scheduled for March 26.
As always, any questions, please ask.
All the best,
Lyn Sato

🏫 AROUND SCHOOL RECENTLY 🏫
On Friday, January 26th, the Grade 10 TAP, pictured above, organized and hosted a Music Trivia event, to raise money to donate towards efforts being for helping those affected the recent earthquake that struck the Noto peninsula and greatly affected Ishikawa prefecture and surrounding areas. The event was able to raise 23,000 yen in total, which included the money raised from trivia participants, buying snacks during the event, and separate donations. A big thank you goes for everyone who participated and a very big thank you as well to those who made separate donations without participating in the event at all.
The student council has been raising money to help those who have been affected by the recent earthquake, through their various events and activities. The 23,000 yen raised from the Music Trivia will be added to the student council's final donation to this organization. The wining team made themselves proud.
Food Drive Donations
Grade 9 TAP can be proud to donate to a food pantry associated with Temple University Japan. For weeks, our students received non-perishable food items to provide for university students who are on a shoestring budget. Thanks for caring, Grade 9 TAP!
Young Singers of Tokyo
This well-established choir welcomes those up to grade 8. It would be a great way to make another set of friends outside of school and to learn a new skill. Lyn Sato welcomes your questions, or contact the choir directly at the address below. The Young Singers of Tokyo allow entrance in any month, but they are working towards a performance in May.
