From the Principal
Copeland families,
I can't believe we are already in December, and that we only have two more weeks of school until our winter break. The first semester has flown by, and I am so proud of all that our Copeland Colts have accomplished!
Please know that December is a busy month packed full of activities. We will not be open for lunch visitors on December 13th due to our 5th grade luncheon and on December 20th due to our holiday parties. On December 13th, we will have a change in our lunch menu due to the schedule change. We will serve hamburgers, cheeseburgers, or sunbutter in lieu of chicken nuggets. Thank you for your understanding.
We are asking for gift card donations in the amount of $5-$10 dollars for different local venues for an upcoming staff raffle drawing. Please send your donation to the front office in an envelope marked "Staff Raffle". We appreciate your generosity!
As always, thank you for your continued support of Copeland. Your children are such a blessing to us. I wish you all a wonderful holiday season. We will see you back on January 7, 2025!

- We very much appreciate our PTO for serving pie to our staff members on November 22nd! It was so delicious!!
Science Resource Center Brings Guinea Pigs to Copeland's Kindergarten Class
Our amazing parent volunteers brought guinea pigs to our Kindergarten classes on November 14 from the SRC. We learned about guinea pig eating habits, living environment and the different types of coats they have. Our happy Kindergarteners even got to pet their new furry friends!
Copeland's 5th Grade Choir Performs at Ace Hardware's Ladies' Night & Cy-Hope
On Wednesday, November 6, our very own 5th Grade Choir performed at Ace Hardware's Ladies' Night. The choir performed We Will Jingle, When Will the Holidays Come?, Nice Nice Christmas, Jingle Bells, Melekalikimaka, I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas, and Jingle Bell Rock. 🎄
This is such a fun holiday tradition for Copeland! We hope you were able to attend!
On December 6, our 5th Grade Choir dazzled the attendees for the Cy-Hope Holiday Party. We are so proud our Colt Choir!!
The Copeland Colts & Langham Creek HS Lobos Honor Veterans
On Monday, November 11th, our Copeland Colts and the Langham Creek AFJROTC Color Guard honored our community's veterans in a parade & reception. The Langham Creek students presented the colors and led the parade, while our Copeland Elementary Scout Pack 433 led the pledge. The Copeland 5th Grade Choir sang several beautifully patriotic songs, and all of our Colts lined the halls to show their gratitude to our veterans and their families. We are so proud of our Colts for their respect and patriotism!
Copeland "Falls in Love with Science"
On November 19, Copeland Elementary and some of the students at Langham Creek HS presented "Fall in Love With Science" for our students and families. The Houston Museum of Natural Science brought out two Discovery Domes and students had opportunities to meet animals, make slime, blow "unpoppable" bubbles and so much more!
1st Grade Hatches Baby Chicks!
After 21 days in the incubator, our baby chicks hatched on October 28! They stayed with our 1st graders for three weeks and then went on to their forever home at the farm. The 1st grade teachers have been introducing their students to animal lifecycles and the characteristics of birds. It's so fun to learn about baby chicks!
The Copeland Library - Our Colts Love Books!
'PUPSgiving' Brings Fun to the Copeland Library!
Interquest CARES brought a furry friend out to visit our Colts on Friday, November 22, and to spread a little PUPSgiving cheer. Coco is training to be a comfort dog, just like our beloved Trixie. Once her training is complete, she will move to sunny California to serve her own students. We know that she will be a wonderful asset to her new campus!

Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact the school counselor.
