Weekly Waddle
October 7
Message From the Principal
Dear Pattengill Community,
I hope everyone had an enjoyable extended weekend and a Happy Rosh Hashanah to our Pattengill families who celebrate. This was a beautiful weekend to spend time with loved ones.
PTA Fun Run
Our annual PTA Fun Run is next Friday, October 18th. Our students are very excited and have worked hard to raise money for our school's largest fundraiser. Our PTA has worked tirelessly to make the Fun Run a success. We are so close to reaching our 4th goal of $12,000! Tomorrow is Forbidden Snack Day so please remember to send in those special treats for your students to have during snack time.
Message from Nurse Rose
There is a district-wide flu/covid vaccine clinic that is being held on Thursday, October 10th, 3:30p-6:00p at Anderson Middle School in the Cafeteria. Anyone six months and older is welcome to sign up and come. Bloom pediatrics are the providers, and they will be administering the vaccines. Please click here to access the signup.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Pattengill parent, Jon Heger, on being named a Trustee of the Berkley School Board. Jon has had 2 children matriculate through Pattengill and currently has a 4th grader at Pattengill. Jon also founded the Pattengill Dad's Club.
Have a great week!
Proud to be your principal,

Golfers, in teams of four, will have the chance to play 18 holes at X-Golf on a world-renowned course. Teams will play an alternate ball style game and enjoy hot dogs at the turn. The team with the lowest score will win the grand prize. Only 9 teams are left - reserve your team before they sell out. Teams can utilize mulligans and sabotages to help their scores.
Golfers can also enter the Longest Drive contest, Closest to the Pin contest and Putting Challenge. Winners take home big prizes.
Not a golfer? Come for a Friday night out!
Enjoy an evening out, courtesy of the BEF, as a spectator. For those who are not avid golfers, don't want to commit to playing 18, or have never swung a club, stop in and enjoy the party. NEW PATTENGILL BOND CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
We received notice late last week that our construction fencing will arrive on Wednesday, October 9. While the fencing will be installed, those areas won’t be closed off until the end of the day on Friday, October 11. This will be an adjustment for our school community, but we are very excited about our new building addition.
Beginning on Monday, October 14th, here is how construction fencing will impact our daily routines:
2nd Grade students will now enter and exit at the Royal Doors.
4th Grade students will now enter and exit at the North Oakshire doors off the playground.
As a reminder, here are the additional updates about our upcoming construction.
Pattengill’s new multi-purpose/cafeteria addition will be attached to the building at the north doors, in the current concrete area. It will house a new lunchroom, a new kitchen, storage rooms, and restrooms and will be a wonderful space for collaboration.
Pattengill’s construction fencing will encompass the concrete area outside of the north doors through the baseball field. In addition, the construction fencing will hug the sidewalk in the grassy area between the playground and building for work on the new underground water drainage system.
Pattengill students will access the playground through the 5th grade doors only.
A large portion of the field will be blocked off for construction staging, however, students will have access to a portion of the field for recess.
A new concrete area will be poured to the south of the playground as part of the later construction plans.
In addition to the multi-purpose addition, the District is adding parking spaces near the baseball field on Royal as part of the construction.
The overhang outside of the north doors will be removed off school hours before construction begins to abate asbestos.
During construction, both Royal and Oakshire will have short time periods where the streets will have construction to tie into the building projects. We will notify the community ahead of time when these projects are slated to begin.
October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month
Join us on Wednesday, October 9, for Defeat the Label’s Stand4Change Day. This nonprofit organization empowers young people to combat bullying and promote an inclusive, judgment-free society. Working with artists, athletes, and celebrities, Defeat the Label provides valuable resources to help students, parents, and educators take a stand against social labeling and bullying. Mrs. Klein, our General Education Social Worker, will be leading sessions in classrooms during the week of October 7 to teach students how to be Upstanders—those who recognize when something isn’t right and take action to create positive change. To learn more about Defeat the Label, please visit: defeatthelabel.com. Let’s come together to stand against bullying!
Bagel Fridays Return!
Bagel sales would not be possible without the many parents who sign up to sell bagels. Please use this link if you would like to sign up to help sell bagels this school year. Bagel sales support 5th grade camp and ensure every 5th grader who wants to attend camp may do so. Plain, salt, cinnamon, and chocolate chip bagels are for sale.
2024-25 Meals Information
Extra Pizza Slice!
Students may purchase an extra slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza for $2. Please send money in a marked envelope with your student's name, grade, and teacher by Friday of each week. Thanks!
Smart Devices in Classrooms
Pattengill students are welcome to bring cell phones and smartwatches to school; however, we kindly ask that these devices remain securely stored in lockers throughout the school day and not be used during school hours.
If students need to contact home, they are welcome to visit the Main Office, where our staff will be happy to assist them with making phone calls.
With your support, we can create an uninterrupted learning environment that benefits all students during instructional time. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps us maintain a focused and productive school day.
Thank you for your cooperation and for supporting the Pattengill staff in providing the best educational experience for our students.
Item Drop-Off Policy
A special thank you to our parents for ensuring your students had their necessary items each day for school. Our staff is working very hard to foster personal leadership in our students and our new policy has minimized classroom disruptions and ensured that instructional time remains focused and uninterrupted.
Please continue to assist us by reviewing with your child each evening what they will need for the following school day.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work together to create a productive and supportive learning environment for all students.
A lunch choice, snacks, and water will always be provided by the school.

Forbidden Snack Day is Tomorrow!
The 2024 Fun Run is fast approaching! This is the PTA's main fundraising event of the year and so far the students are off to a great start. We have hit our first three milestones. On Tuesday, October 8, our students are allowed to bring in a forbidden snack -- so for one day only, you get to say yes when they ask to pack a bag of chips or a cookie! (Please keep all our penguins safe -- per the school allergy policy, there are no peanuts or tree nuts allowed in classrooms)
Fun Run!
We are getting SO CLOSE to our fourth milestone goal of raising $12,000 -- and when we do, ALL students receive a fun incentive. As we continue to reach our goals, we have more exciting things in store -- so make sure to donate today! Remember that these donations help fund field trip buses, assemblies, playground equipment, and much more.
