Rays Update
October 10, 2024
Message from the Principal
Rays,
I cannot believe we are in the middle of October. It feels like this year is in full swing. October is usually when our teachers and students hit what is known as the fall wall. This is where we are increasing instructional rigor in classrooms and students are becoming more comfortable in their instructional environments. I thought it would be a great time for students to write sweet notes to their teachers and peers. If you have a child interested in spreading some cheer on campus, please have them write a note of appreciation or positive quote for their teachers and classmates.
Monday October 14, 2024 is Parent/Teacher conferences. This will be a student holiday.
Thank you,
Alison Pennington
Principal

Volunteering
Hi,
Many parents have asked about volunteer opportunities. As mentioned above in the principal message we are working on creating a video that will highlight our volunteer opportunities as a campus. I wanted to make sure I clarified volunteering and RAPTOR. This year the district moved to a new system. When you apply to be a volunteer through Leander ISD (https://www.leanderisd.org/volunteering/ ), it was communicated that you should see volunteer opportunities for your campus through Raptor. This function is currently not working. To make our community aware of volunteer opportunities through PTA; PTA will be making sign-up forms for volunteer opportunities until this is fixed. This is a district wide issue, and they are working with RAPTOR to fix the concern.
Literacy Partners Needed
PLEASE join our Reagan Literacy Partners Team by volunteering to read for 30 minutes, ONCE a week with 2 students, 15 minutes each, in a one-on-one reading time! It's fun and rewarding to help our young students become better, more confident readers with a greater love for books!
For more information, please contact Heather Bonham, Reagan's Literacy Partner Coordinator, at 512-656-9933 OR register to volunteer at education-connection.org.
Halloween Costumes
Boo and Happy Halloween! If your family would benefit from a donated Halloween costume this season please complete this Halloween costume form. We have limited sizes and styles but are happy to pass on the Halloween spirit to your child(ren). If you are doing some fall cleaning and have a costume to donate please drop it off at the office and we'll find a new home for it.
On Saturday, October 26th, the students of the Leander High School Thespian Society are excited to welcome friends, family, and community members to the LHS Courtyard for FALLIES! This family-friendly fall fair will have games and prizes, crafts, student performances, and more!
Along with acting as the Thespian Society's primary fundraiser for the school year, students are hoping that this event will become an annual community event, so please make plans to stop by and feel free to share the event link (https://www.facebook.com/share/wG83KHZf27Ur9Tcu/).

Teacher Spotlight
Pedernales Electric Cooperative invests in an array of educational programs to help brighten classrooms and communities across the Texas Hill Country. For a second school year, PEC will host a Teacher Spotlight Award to recognize the incredible work teachers do in their classrooms and communities. PEC is accepting nominations for the Teacher Spotlight Award through October 25 and encourages members to fill out the form online. Please feel free to share this with your community to recognize your hardworking educators.
From the nominations received, PEC will select teachers from across the co-op’s service territory to receive awards. This round’s winners will be announced in November and PEC will visit the teachers at their schools to present them with a thank-you basket of resources and materials to support classroom learning.
Members can learn more details and nominate a teacher by visiting pec.coop/youth-programs. I’m also available if you have any questions.
