Weekly Message from Dr. Clark
October 4, 2024
Dear Holy Cross Community,
Happy Friday! We had another eventful week at Holy Cross. Sunflower House visited K-8 classrooms and provided lessons on safety. We also hosted Dr. Cascone, Superintendent of Schools - Archdiocese Kansas City, KS, who visited campus to met faculty and staff. Grade 5 students continued attending their STARBASE program, we held preschool speech and hearing screenings, and had our All School Mass in the Church. Well done to our fourth grade students who did a great job leading Mass this week.
We also had our inaugural STREAM Night for Grades K-2. Congratulations and big thanks to Ms. Kopp, Director of STREAM, for organizing a fun-filled, Halloween-themed, evening for families, where students engaged in activities to learn about circuits, magnetism, Ozobot color coding, and catapults. Big kudos to our Grade 7-8 students also who led the different stations.

Virtuous Formation Program/Education in Virtue
Holy Cross has adopted a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support System known as the Be Holy Cross Virtuous Behavior Formation. Expectations are clearly defined under the “Be Holy Cross” framework. Students are expected to conduct themselves in keeping with the expectations set in this framework to be caring, responsible, obedient, and successful stewards. Individual, classroom, and school-wide expectations will be taught at the beginning of the school year and emphasized at various times throughout the year. Students will be acknowledged for positive behaviors. This is in full alignment with our annual theme: In a world where you can be anything...Be Holy Cross.
Education in Virtue, is the Archdiocesan Catholic Social Emotional Learning program which is a key component of our Virtuous Formation Program. It provides a curriculum and resources developed by the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, and based on St. Thomas Aquinas’ teachings on the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. These resources provide a framework that helps all ages understand how to live a more virtuous life.
At Holy Cross, we highlight a virtue each month that is weaved organically into lessons and our daily school life. They are used in our announcements to guide our morning prayer, selection of the Saint of the Month, activities for our Faith Families, as well as classroom lessons. The virtue for the month of October is Humility (Humbleness).
Nurses' Nook
Holy Cross Allergy Conscious Policy
***Allergy-conscious policies can help protect people with food allergies and other hypersensitivities.
***It is helpful to all if either you or your child stops by the nurse office or the front office with the snack or treat they bring to share, so that it can be checked if it is allowed in the classroom before taking it in.
***When purchasing items for classroom or school wide consumption, please read labels carefully, as they may not have an “allergen warning”.
You must do the following:
***Read the ingredients on the label and make sure they are peanut and tree nut free.
*** Then look for a ¨may contain¨ statement under the ingredients list that tells of possible allergens the product may contain.
*** Under that, sometimes there is a ¨processed in a factory or plant that also processes peanuts and/or tree nuts¨ statement.
IMPORTANT to remember:
All products must be in a sealed package with a printed label of the ingredients.
NO Homemade items.
NO items from a bakery or donut shop.
CANNOT contain tree nuts (walnuts, pecans, pistachios, cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, pine nuts, hazelnuts).
CANNOT contain peanuts.
CANNOT be made in a facility that processes peanuts and/or tree nuts.
Please see the link below for instructions on how to read a label and what to look for. Thank you for your cooperation! We really appreciate it.
Johnson County Health Clinic

A friendly reminder that if your child will not be in school for any reason i.e. appointment, illness, or is out of town please email the nurses.

Warm wishes, Polly and Nina
*NO PUEDE contener maní.
