Mrs. Michels Weekly Updates
Let's make it a great week!
Weekly Updates and Reminders 3/10-3/21
Hello Hamilton Families!
What a beautiful weekend! This beautiful weather makes up for losing an hour with day light saving time today! The week ahead is supposed to have some nice weather. With the warmer temps we get messy playgrounds, consider putting a change of pants in your child backpack in case they fall in the mud at recess.
Also with the warmer weather we will be directing students to walk around to their assigned door for arrival. Students enter the front door if they are a safety, have a prearranged plan with me or if it is afte 8:25. All other students enter their assigned door. This is done so we know were students are at all time and their teachers know where to expect them. Please drop your child off by 8:15 so they have enough time to walk to their class line up and be ready to walk into class at 8:25. Students must be in class by 8:30. When your child is on time for school this allows them the appropriate amount of time to get them selves ready for a great day of learning.
Please remember with drop off that if you are pulling to the front of the school to drop off you must pull all the way into the yellow striped area before letting your child out of the car. Children need to be let out at the curb so they are not walking in front of cars.Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
Reading Night
Thank you all so much for coming out to reading night! It was wonderful seeing so many families at Hamilton enjoying the evening! I hope Reading Night helped jump start the students desire to read this month. We have reading activities all month long so keep and eye on the reading calendar and jump into a reading adventure!!!
School of Choice
The 2025-2026 School of Choice opened on February 24, 2025, for students who reside within the Wayne-Westland Community Schools Boundaries.
The School of Choice application link will open on February 24, 2025, and close on March 21, 2025.
There will be no waitlist. If your child is already school of choice there is no need to do anything. If you moved during the school year and would like to have your child continue to attend Hamilton you just have to fill out the application.
Kindergarten Round Up
Friday March 14th from 1:30-2:30 we will host Kindergarten Round Up! If you or someone you know has a child who will be 5 years old by 12/1/25 it is time to enroll for Kindergarten or Young 5s. On Friday I will have a brief presentation while the incoming kindergarten students do an activity in the kindergarten classrooms. Visitors will have the opportunity to register their child, tour the school and ask any questions they may have regarding Young 5's and Kindergarten!

A new little Hamilton Star
Thank you to all of you who have sent your well wishes and congratulations for my new grandson. He made his much anticipated arrival Monday March 3rd, he was 8 lbs 9 ounces, 20 inches long, his name is Dawson Joseph Michels. Mom, Dad and baby are doing great, Mr. Michels and I could not be more happy to be first time grand parents!!
PBIS Corner
We are in our last two weeks of our Be an Upstander- See Something- Say Something behavior focus. I am hearing students use the word upstander more and more along with having conversations about the difference between a tattle and a report. In school we continue to have these conversations and talk about these ideas and issues as they come up, I ask that you continue the conversation at home. Talk to your children about doing the right thing- being an upstander even when no one is watching and especially when others around you are making the wrong choice. We want our students to be role models and leaders to show the right way to be a positive member of our community.
Here are some short videos to watch with your child about being an upstander

Transportation
We are having some issues with behavior on the bus. Please talk to your student and remind them of the expected behavior on the bus. Please keep in mind that the bus is a privilege and if your child is loses his/her privilege of using the bus they are still required to attend school. Being safe on the bus is critical and the expectation for all students who ride the bus. Students who do not follow the bus expectations will have consequences and if the behavior is repeated they could be removed from the bus.
The district has an app called Here Comes the Bus. This wonderful free app allows you to track exactly where you child's bus is at all times.
