Nurse Notes
Regardless of the grade, accidents happen during the day: milk spilling at lunch, mud/wet conditions on the playground, toileting accidents, etc. Please pack an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpacks for these unexpected mishaps. If your child does need to borrow any clothes from the clinic, please launder and return to the clinic as soon as possible.
The clinic could use pants for both boys and girls. Any donation would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Counselor's Corner
Dear HPE Families,
As the holiday season approaches, it's a wonderful opportunity to teach our children about the true spirit of giving, gratitude, and joy. Here are a few tips to help guide gift-giving:
Focus on Meaning, Not Just Quantity
Encourage thoughtful gift-giving and receiving by choosing meaningful presents over an abundance of items. This teaches children to appreciate the value of gifts rather than their sheer number.Set Realistic Expectations
It's natural for kids to have wish lists, but helping them understand the importance of thoughtful spending and consideration for family budgets is a great life lesson.Teach the Joy of Giving
Engage your children in choosing or creating gifts for others, such as handmade cards or crafts. Let them experience the joy of making someone else happy.Incorporate Gratitude
Teach children to be thankful for all gifts they receive, no matter how big or small. Writing thank-you notes is a meaningful way to practice gratitude.Highlight Experiences Over Things
Consider giving experiences—like museum passes, a family outing, or a special holiday activity—that create lasting memories rather than accumulating possessions.Include Acts of Kindness
Encourage your children to think about giving back, such as donating toys they no longer use, volunteering, or contributing to a charitable cause as part of their holiday tradition.
Remember, the greatest gift we can give our children is the understanding that the holiday season is about love, kindness, and togetherness—not just the gifts that we receive. Wishing you a joyful and meaningful holiday season!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Williams

Social Emotional Learning
Kindergarten
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will show what they’ve learned about the importance of paying attention, practicing, and continuing to try after making mistakes. They’ll put these skills to use while learning a rhyme with accompanying movements.
Try This at Home: Ask your child to show and teach you the rhyme they learned, along with the movements, so you can do it together.
First Grade
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will practice using helpful thoughts to encourage themselves and keep going while learning a dance with their classmates.
Try This at Home: Ask your child to suggest some helpful thoughts to encourage you or another family member to complete a challenging task (for example, a school/home/work project, or an exercise routine).
Second Grade
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn that helpful thoughts can help us keep going when we’re learning and that unhelpful thoughts might make us want to give up.
Try This at Home: Ask your child whether the thoughts they have when they’re learning something new are helpful or unhelpful. Ask your child to share examples of helpful thoughts they know.
Third Grade
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will work with a partner to make a practice plan that includes what they want to learn, how they will practice, and what they can do if they aren’t improving.
Try This at Home: Ask your child to tell you what a practice plan includes.
Fourth Grade
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will be able to reflect on the characteristics that make someone an upstanding digital citizen. They will be able to recognize what cyberbullying is and show ways to be an upstander by creating a digital citizenship superhero comic strip.
Try This at Home: Discuss with your child what their superhero did that made them an upstanding digital citizen and what your child can do to be an upstanding digital citizen.

Transportation Change During the Day
Occasionally, parents must make unplanned transportation changes during the school day. All telephone calls must be received by 1:00 pm.
