The Churchill Catch Up
December 9, 2024
Quarter 2: November 4 - January 23
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
Attendance has been LOW quarter 2 and is resulting in many students not being on target or being paused from classes!
As a reminder CCHS is set up for students learn and complete work during their class time, eliminating homework as an obstacle to the learning process. The only way this works is if students are here to learn and work with their classmates and teachers.
Pause notifications will be sent via email. If you receive one and would like to speak to Karen further please respond to the email or call.
Attendance Policy
THAN 6 NON DOCUMENTED ABSENCES IN ONE QUARTER MAY RESULT IN A STUDENT BEING PAUSED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE QUARTER WHICH WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF CREDIT
The number of minutes for tardies will be tracked by teachers and may count as a day of absence. For every 60 minutes tardy in a class one day of absence will be recorded
Documentation will be required in order for the absence to be considered documented.
Documentation means submitting paperwork to confirm the reason for the absence.
Absence Reasons that May be Documented Include:
Personal/Family Emergencies
Medical Appointments
Religious Holidays
Funerals
Legal Appearances
Absences for unauthorized reasons or ones that are undocumented will be counted towards the 6 limit.
For any school time missed students should plan to stay in the afternoon(s) when you return in order to catch up on the work you missed
Staying in the afternoon for academic probation, assigned by the teacher, may offset absence counts at teachers discretion
If you do not start the quarter on time, it will be an expectation that you stay in the afternoon(s) for the number of days you start late
Any student who enters/leaves the school building without properly signing in/out will not be able to have the absence documented and may be assigned disciplinary consequences.
The Optimist Club Youth Appreciation Breakfast
CCHS Recipient: Keira Stone
Each year The Optimist Club sponsors a Youth Appreciation Breakfast to celebrate students that embody the Optimist Creed. This year our PE/Health teacher, Aubrey, nominated Keira. Aubrey had this to say about Keira:
"Keira is very kind and will greet you with a smile not matter what kind of day she is having. In having conversations with her, she truly looks on the bright side of things and does not let the negatives bring her down. She is always willing to help other students, whether she is friends with them or not. You can count on her coming to school everyday, even when her peers might say there is "no point." Keira has been a great asset to our school ands we can't wait to see what her bright future holds."
Congratulations to this very deserving young lady!
Attendance Challenge: Q1 Winner
Ari McCants
For quarter one we had eight students that met the requirements to be in the running for lunch on CCHS as the winner of the attendance challenge. All students that met the requirements received a $5 7-Eleven gift card. The winner, Ari, was chosen by spinning a wheel with all students' names.

What is the Difference Between a Service and a Therapy Dog?
Meet Knox
Knox is a new member of the Churchill community. He is a service dog that works with one of our students and attends daily. Knox being a service dog is different than when Charlie, a therapy dog, comes to visit. When Knox is wearing his vest he is working and should not be touched or engaged with. If Knox's owner takes his vest off, he is taking a break and may be touched after asking his owner if it okay to do so.
