Canada in 2060
Exploring the past, present and future. By: ALZAHRAA THANI
We have no idea how our country will look in 2060
The difference between 2016 to 2060 is quite large and estimating the way Canada will look is very hard. Even though we can't research how Canada will look in near future, we could research about the demography of the past, present and future. For example, lets look at the present, past and future status of the first nations and immigrants of Canada.
First Nations, Metis, and Inuits (Future of the Aboriginals)
They are not going to be as disgraced as they are today and our generation is more educated to help the aboriginal communities for like Wab Kinew. Wab Kinew voice reaches out to many and has the ability to change our future generation.

Past and Present Aboriginals
In the past aboriginals were the first ones to arrive in Canada and later on the British and French colonized the country, and the Aboriginals were treated inhumanely. The aboriginal people lost their homes, their culture and perhaps many of theirs lives. They put the aboriginal kids in residential schools so they could tear their culture, while growing up, aboriginal kids were constantly bullied and tortured attending schools. Aboriginals are scared nowadays, they don't have the will to speak up about the issue because nobody is ready to listen to what they have to say.
Past Immigration
In the past Canada's immigration has been increased because of a few reasons; As Canada had good times of immigration, it also had the bad times. In World War 1 & 2, Canada's immigration was an all-time low. There were economic problems, and due to the war, it was difficult to move to another country. From the 1800s to mid 1900s, people who came to Canada was from Europe, and some from Asia due to poverty in their own countries. Canada pulled in these immigrants and gave them healthcare, education and safety. Canada has changed since.
Present Immigration
The average immigrants to Canada per year is 250,000 people. The three groups of immigrants are economical immigrants, family immigrants and the refugees. The group that has the most intake in current Canadian immigration is the economic immigrants. They contribute most in Canadian societies because they have an impact on the countries economy. Nowadays immigrants are coming from all around the world mostly from parts of Asia.
The future of Canadian Immigrants
In the past immigrants were coming mostly from Europe, Asia and current immigrants are coming from areas like India, China, and the Philippines. Out of the given information, people from the Middle East will most likely be immigrating to Canada because countries in the middle east are facing problems like war, poverty and fewer job opportunities. They'll be coming to Canada because of the USA Presidential election in place, and if Donald Trump gets elected, there will be a huge problem for immigrants trying to escape the horrors of their countries.
Demography (Past and Present)
In the past, women were getting married earlier, so there was a high fertility rate and high birth rate. During 1950's there was a baby boom and the birth rate has increased drastically. This happened because World War Two has ended and all the soldiers came back to their families and had children. The fertility rate at that time was 4 children per woman, but in the beginning of the 21st century, the birth rate was declining. In this century, women have jobs and are getting married later. Today Canada is in stage 4 so the birth and death rate are low to a higher natural increase rate.
Future of Demography
Canada has been running on baby boomers, and they want to take advantage and use it. So by 2060, there will be a guess that baby boomers will die off and Canada will once again need to reestablish their economy by bringing more immigrants into the country. We are currently in stage 4 of the DTM (demographic transition model) and therefore are heading into stage 5, that means the natural increase rate will be extremely high.
How is life going to be different in 2060 than the life my parents currently have in Canada now?
I think my life will be way more advanced than my parents because of how fast technology is growing. Terms of responsibility, like taking care of kids and housework it will be different, predicting all of this will make a big difference and tells me how different our lives will be compared to the parents now.
