CPEC WEEKLY UPDATE (09/30-10/4)
Small School, Big Opportunities, Endless Possibilities!!
Principal Turner's Corner
Greetings CPEC Families,
We hope this message finds you well and safe as our community continues to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Helene. We have several important updates and reminders for the upcoming week.
CMS School Closures - Monday, September 30:
CMS schools, including CPEC, will remain closed on Monday, September 30, as the recovery efforts continue. We appreciate your understanding during this time and hope that everyone is staying safe.
CPCC will operate on Normal Schedule - Monday, September 30: - Central Piedmont Community College has not announced closures for Monday, September 30th. CPEC students who are enrolled in college classes should contact their instructors via email to confirm whether class will be held on Monday, September 30th.
Midterm Exam Schedule Adjustments:
Due to school closures on both Friday, September 27, and Monday, September 30, we will be adjusting the midterm exam schedule. Updated details will be shared by your student's teachers, so please be on the lookout for any communication regarding changes to exam dates and times.
End of 1st Quarter - Friday, October 4:
Please note that despite the adjustments to the exam schedule, the last day of the 1st quarter marking period will remain Friday, October 4. It’s important for students to stay focused and make sure all assignments are completed and submitted before this deadline.
Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding as we navigate these challenges. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the school. We look forward to resuming a productive and successful school year.
Stay safe!
Warm regards,
Principal Turner

Email reminder: Parents, please remind your students that they should check their CMS and CPCC email addresses daily.
CP Instructors will only communicate via CP email so any student in a CP class needs to check that account daily.
CMS email is the most equitable way for CPEC staff to communicate with students so lots of information gets sent to student email accounts.
Transfer Tuesdays: Each Tuesday, CP hosts 4 year institutions on campus so that students can meet with f admissions representatives to learn more about how to transfer there when you finish at Central Piedmont. This is a great chance for CPEC students to meet with admissions officers or four year colleges they might be interested in! Look for schools you might be interested in here: https://www.cpcc.edu/events/transfer-tuesdays
Transfer Fair: Representatives from more than 25 colleges will be on Central Campus Tuesday, October 22 from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. to discuss transfer partnerships, programs, benefits, admissions requirements, student engagement, how to transfer and so much more. CPEC will develop a plan for all of our students to be able to attend the Transfer Fair.
Advising and registering for Spring 2024 CP courses: CPCC Advisors will be available to CPEC students on the dates below. Any CPEC student who will be taking spring college classes is expected to meet with a CP advisor. There have been 5 sessions already this semester and there are 2 remaining:
Oct 4 - 8:30-2
Oct 15 - 8:30-2
CPEC students register for all of their own college course work each semester, using their high school courses to help determine available times. When students meet with CP advisors, those advisors will help them plan which classes should be taken in the spring. It is then each students responsibility to find specific sections of those classes and add them to their schedule for the next semester. It is best practice is to have sections planned and scheduled before registration opens up , so that all they need to do is click "register" to get those sections added to their account for the spring. This is a step that many students miss the first time around! If students need help with this step, I'm happy to support. They can stop by my office at any time, and I will be going into homerooms to check over the next several weeks.
Registration for Spring 2025 college classes will open on October 21.
Financial Aid Night - September 30, 2024 @ 6:30 PM. Timikia Ruffin from CFNC is hosting a virtual Financial Aid Night just for the CPCC Middle and Early College campuses. Plan to attend to hear about ways to pay for college - scholarships, grants and loans - as well as detailed information about the FAFSA, which has been updated this year! This is a virtual event, open to all grade levels - please register here: https://bit.ly/EMCFinAid to get the link to attend.
Senior Appointments: Many of our college bound seniors are well on their way to completing their college applications, and some have already received acceptance letters! ALL seniors are required to have a senior appointment to discuss graduation progress and post-secondary support. Seniors who have not yet signed up can sign up here
