Term 2 Report Cards Available Online
Term 2 report cards are now available online and can be accessed through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Log in to your account and click on the “Report Card” button in the left-hand sidebar.
As always, if you have questions about your child’s report card or any other topics related to their education feel free to contact their classroom teacher. If you need help accessing your Parent Portal account, contact the school office at 780-464-3330.
Important Information About Field Trips
Students with unpaid school or field trip fees will not be able to participate in any remaining field trips for the 2024-25 school year. If your child’s class is attending a field trip and they are unable to join, an alternate program will be provided at the school.
Field trips are co-curricular activities designed to enhance classroom learning, but they are not required to meet curriculum outcomes. Our school operates on a cost-recovery, non-profit basis, meaning fees collected go directly toward covering the costs of these experiences.
To review your school fee information for the 2024-25 school year, please log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and select “Student Fees” where you can view and pay any outstanding fees online.
If you need assistance or would like to discuss a payment plan, please contact the school at 780-464-3330, and we’d be happy to help.

Week of Inspirational Math
This week students enjoyed math activities during the Week of Inspirational Math. The theme this year was "In My Math Era". Students had the opportunity to see that math is all around us through a variety of fun math activities taking place in classrooms all week. These kinds of questions are open-ended without necessarily having a correct answer.
There was also daily virtual guest readers who shared their passion for math along with a great math inspired story book. Make sure to ask your child about how they were inspired by math this week.

EIPS Annual Feedback Survey
Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) wants to hear from you. Every year, EIPS conducts a feedback survey to gauge its progress toward meeting the goals and priorities outlined in its Four-Year Education Plan. Collectively, the Division uses the survey feedback to help guide future planning, decision-making and strategies—all aimed at enhancing student learning and better serving the wider community.
Complete the 2024-25 EIPS Annual Feedback Survey: For Parents and Caregivers by March 21.
Calling All Grade 4 Families
Check your email for your unique QR random access code to complete the Alberta Education Assurance Survey. The survey is open until March 21, 2025. We highly encourage our Grade 4 families to fill it out as this information helps us to know what we are doing well and what are some areas for growth.
Not sure about a question? For example, if it asks you if your child is learning about First Nations, Metis an Inuit foundational knowledge but your can't remember hearing about it, check out our WBF Mid-Point Review as a resource to find out all of the great things happening at our school!
If you need the email resent, please contact the school office at 780-464-3330 or send an email to general.wbf@eips.ca.

Physical Activity is Linked to Better Classroom Performance
It’s no secret that exercise benefits children, but did you know that maintaining physical fitness can also help your child in school?
Studies show that, compared with their inactive peers, children who get regular exercise:
- Have better hand-eye coordination.
- Are better listeners.
- Are less fidgety during class.
- Have better handwriting.
To make physical activity a daily part of your child’s life:
- Go on regular walks. Pick a time, such as before or after dinner, to take a short walk around your neighborhood together and have a conversation.
- Take the long way. When you are out running errands with your child, skip the elevators and escalators and take the stairs. Choose parking spots that will allow you to walk a bit farther.
- Play active games. From shooting hoops to tag, there’s no end to the fun your family can have.
- Have contests. When you watch TV together, challenge your child to a competition. During commercial breaks, see who can do the most jumping jacks or pushups.
- Put your child in charge. Ask your child to come up with some creative ways to keep your family moving.

RunWild Pep Rally
This week, students attended an exciting Pep Rally to support the RunWild fundraiser for the Zebra Centre! The rally helped build enthusiasm for the upcoming event, which raises awareness and funds for children and families in need.
The main RunWild event takes place on Sunday, May 4, in St. Albert, with a special elementary youth satellite event happening on Saturday, May 3, in Spruce Grove and Sherwood Park. Students learned more about how they can get involved and support this great cause.
For more details or to share information with your child, visit www.runwild.ca. Let's get moving for a great cause! 🏃♂️🎉
PALS Program
Is there a preschooler in your life experiencing identified developmental delays or challenges with speech-language—big or small? If so, Elk Island Public School’s Play And Learn at School (PALS) program could help.
Early learning lays the foundation for success in primary grades and beyond. As such, EIPS offers the pre-kindergarten PALS program in five of its elementary school locations. Applications are now open for free speech-language assessments for those interested in registering in the PALS program this fall. The assessment helps determine if PALS is appropriate for your child.
If you know a preschooler, born in 2021 or 2022, who could benefit from pre-kindergarten programming or want to book an assessment, fill out the PALS Program Request Form or call 780-417-8219. For more information, visit eips.ca.
Tabs for Tots
Save the “tab” off of beverage cans and other recyclable materials, and bring them to the office! The collection is sold for scrap and the funds collected are allocated for helping local hospitals.
The Tabs for Tots program has been able to donate over $170,000 worth of pediatric medical equipment to our local hospitals.

Westboro Parents Society is hosting a Parent Engagement on April 16 and 29 to speak about creating smoother, stress-free routines while building essential executive function skills in their children!
