Student of the Month for Gratitude
Gratitude is choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives. We have an amazing group of students here at Sewell. Below are students nominated by their teacher, for Student of the Month for Gratitude.
Ms. Hanson's class: River is always positive, he likes to help his friends, and sharing smiles each and every day, he is always respectful and he always saying thank you. River brings so much joy to our classroom.
Mrs. Alvarado-Wells' class: Spencer has been nominated for the character strong award of Gratitude. He smiles brightly when complimented, he always remembers to show his appreciation when given an award, such as a sticker with a smile and a thank you. He will even go as far as taking that award and expressing his gratitude to another person by passing on his award to show his appreciation towards that person for their kindness.
Ms. Dolan's class: Reonie shows gratitude every day with her joy in being with her friends, in her delight in learning new things, and in the wonder, she shares when she makes a new discovery. She not only notices the kind things people do, but she also lets them know that she appreciates it. This inspires others to express their gratitude for the people and things around them.
Ms. Ioannou's class: Frankie does a great job showing gratitude. Frankie always takes time to recognize when someone helps him by saying thank you. Frankie makes others feel valued with kind words and actions. Frankie is a wonderful example of what it means to be grateful.
Ms. Mendoza's class: I would like to recognize Mia for the character trait of gratitude. Mia shows appreciation when someone shows her kindness and is always kind in return. She sets a great example for others by saying thank you when receiving something and writes sweet notes to thank me for being her teacher.
Ms. Petrino's class: This award is given to Katherine in recognition of your outstanding ability to demonstrate gratitude and kindness. You’ve shown that even simple gestures of thanks can make a big difference. Keep spreading positivity and appreciation — the world needs more people like you!
Ms. Hook's class: Ryder is so much more than saying Thank You! Ryder show gratitude in so many ways. She shows kindness with her friends, teachers, and family. Ryder is an excellent listener and lets her friends know that she appreciates who they are and what they have to say. She shows joy when someone else is happy and is happy for them!

Student of the Month for Empathy
Empathy is understanding and connecting to other people's feelings. We have an amazing group of students here at Sewell. Below are students nominated by their teacher, for Student of the Month for Empathy.
Ms. Barraza's class: Araceli is consistently aware of others' feelings and needs. She brings urgent attention when others fall down and get hurt or are feeling sad. Araceli always has encouraging words to said to her friends when they are not feeling good and shows sincere compassion and understanding. Araceli also enjoys being there for others by lending a needed helping hand in the classroom and out in the playground, which encourages others to help out. Congratulations, Araceli, we're so proud of you😀!!!!
Ms. Hanson's class: Azaria is always there to help a friend in need, whether it's offering a kind word or sharing. When a classmate is feeling sad, she always knows just how to make them feel better. Azaria listens carefully to others and makes sure no one feels left out, showing us all what it means to be a good friend. Azaria has such a big heart, and her kindness makes our class a happier place every single day.
Mrs. Alvarado-Wells' class: Michael shows kindness towards others. If he sees a friend looking blue, he will ask them what is wrong. He tells his friends, “Everything will be okay.” If he sees someone alone at break, he tells them to come play with him. Michael always jumps to the rescue when he sees his classmates feeling blue.
Ms. Dolan's class: Mia demonstrates empathy daily. She notices when those around her are unhappy, and she tries to help them feel better. She asks what is wrong and really listens to them. She does not hesitate to bring the feelings of others to an adult’s attention when needed. Mia also notices when those around her are joyful, and she rejoices with them.
Ms. Ioannou's class: Sophiera does a great job showing empathy, which means understanding how others feel and being kind to them. Sophiera notices when a friend feels sad or left out, or when someone needs cheering up. She always tries to include others and make everyone feel happy and welcome. Sophiera is a great example of what it means to care about others!
Ms. Mendoza's class: I am recognizing Matteo for the character trait of Empathy. When someone is sad or upset, Matteo is usually the first person to notice and he will let me know, then try to find out how he can help. He really listens and tries to understand the problem. Thank you, Matteo. Your empathy makes our classroom a kinder place.
Ms. Petrino's class: Daisy is a great friend due to her ability of having empathy for others. She is kind and offers support and encouragement for her friends and peers. She helps make our classroom community a wonderful place. Keep being a kind and empathetic person!
Ms. Hook's class: Jameson has shown empathy in my class. He shows the ability to understand and share another person's feelings. He did this recently when he helped a new student feel welcome in class. His attitude contributes to a positive environment in the classroom. I am grateful to have Jameson in class.
Ms. Ryan's class: Milania an empathetic person. Anytime one of her peers is sad, she gives them a hug. Also, Milania is extra kind when she sees someone is not having a good day. Additionally, Milania loves to give little flowers from our school trees to her friends and always gives Ms. Ryan little yellow flowers from our school trees frequently.

As a reminder, in order to participate in the monthly Perfect Attendance Pizza Party, you have to be here every day, on time and without leaving early.

Volunteering at Sewell
We are looking for parent volunteers to support in our classroom by supporting students and the teacher. You can help in our garden, the library, during lunch recess, or support a classroom field trip. Your help is needed and greatly appreciated it takes all of us working together to "Inspire and Empower our Students for Success." Please sign up to volunteer with us today!!
Inclusive Preschool Program: Open Seats 2024-25 school year
Your child will enjoy meaningful friendships and increase their social interaction. They will have peer role models for academic, social and behavior skills. This prepares them for adult life in an inclusive, diverse society. We know students achieve more in place of learning where every student's needs are supported by an inclusive community. Their teacher is early childhood certified, and we keep small class sizes for high-quality experiences for your child.
- Ages: 3 and 4
- must be three by August 31
- Free
- 2½ hours daily
- Morning OR afternoon session
- Classes held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
Before/After School Registration
Our Before- and After School Programs offer a safe and fun place for children before school, after school, on breaks, and during the summer. Our programs engage students in various activities that include arts and crafts, indoor/outdoor games, cooking, homework help, explore through field trips, and more! Our Before- and After-School programs are licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services and accept DES.
Services Cost
Before School $44.10 weekly (7:00 am - 8:00 am)
After School $81.90 weekly (after school - 6:00 pm)
Before/After School $94.50 weekly
Spots are granted in order of application, so apply soon.
Attendance or Tardy Reporting
If your child will be absent on any given day for any reason, please call our attendance line, 520-584-7200. You can also report absences and tardies through ParentVue, see pdf document below.
If your child is tardy to school, they will need to be checked-in, by a parent, in the front office before going to class.
Excellent attendance is a high priority at Sewell. Missing school can be detrimental to your child's progress. When a child is absent from school, they will need to make-up missing assignments. Please contact your child's teacher via email for make-up work.
