Hello Woodsy Owls,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am continually filled with pride and gratitude for the warm and caring community we have here at Sierra Hills Elementary School. Every day I witness acts of kindness, compassion, and respect between our students, staff, and families. From helping a classmate to volunteering at school, the spirit of generosity is truly alive here. It makes our school such a special place where everyone feels supported and valued. Thank you for fostering this wonderful environment.

One of the most important factors in student success is regular school attendance. When children are in school consistently, they have the opportunity to learn and grow every day. Research shows a strong correlation between good attendance and academic achievement. Students with excellent attendance are more likely to earn higher grades, score better on tests, and graduate on time. In fact, studies have shown that students who miss just ten percent of the school year (about 18 days) are significantly more likely to fall behind their peers. We encourage you to make school attendance a priority and ensure your child is present every day, ready to learn. Every day counts!

We are also focusing on developing a deep understanding of mathematics through the California Math standards. These standards emphasize not just finding the right answer, but also understanding the why behind the math. We want our students to be problem solvers and critical thinkers, able to explain their reasoning and approach to a problem. This means that we encourage students to show their work, explain their thinking, and even learn from their mistakes. We believe that by focusing on the process, students will develop a stronger foundation in math and be better equipped for future success. We encourage you to engage in conversations with your child about their math work. Ask them how they solved a problem and what strategies they used. This will help them solidify their understanding and build confidence in their math abilities.
