Short Avenue IB Learners Strive to Be...
Mr. Lamb's Updates
Happy Weekend Short Avenue Families and Friends!
I try to keep my messages positive and informative. This week is more sentimental. While you are reading this on a beautiful Sunday morning, I am in San Diego. Yesterday my wife and I moved our youngest daughter into her dorm at UCSD. Another milestone in life accomplished. Our oldest successfully moved into a new apartment without any assistance from me as she prepares for her third year at UCD.
When we become parents we do not immediately realize how time is going to be marked by milestone events. We have the “Firsts.” The first steps, the first word, the first day of school, and the first birthday are but a few. We have the big learning moments - learning to ride a bike, learning to read, and “gulp” learning to drive. There are sports or arts celebrations. And there are the various graduations - elementary, middle, and high school - that bring out the families and bring out the tears. But the ultimate goal for us all is having worked hard to nurture a grown adult able to navigate the world as a decent human citizen.
I sit here somber and proud. We have done our job and done it well (at least I think so). I am proud of both daughters and excited for their college journeys and experiences. And I am sad that this chapter is closing.
Looking at the list of milestones I realize that many are not achieved in isolation. Rather we have the help of others. Sometimes it is just a few. Sometimes an entire community assists.
I want to end by thanking all of you for choosing Short Avenue and trusting me and my team with your children. We are honored to be assisting you on this journey. Cherish the moments - even when you are tired and frustrated - because 18 years goes faster than you think.
Please enjoy the rest of your weekend.
See you Monday!

Having trouble getting a TB test?
There will be a chance to get a FREE TB Screening at Daniel Webster Middle School on Thursday, September 26th from 5:00 to 6:30pm. This is a SCREENING, NOT a TB test. Depending on your answers, you may still have to get a TB test somewhere else, in order to become an approved volunteer. But if you pass the screening, this will be sufficient to get you approved. Please see the Flyers Below with the info.

Birthday Policy
Families,
We want to remind you of our birthday party policy. In an effort to be equitable and keep our students healthy, we do NOT allow caregivers to send in cupcakes and treats for birthdays. While classes may organize celebrations for various occasions throughout the year, birthday parties should be held outside of school. Parents are welcome to arrange with the teacher to read a story in their child's class, or lead a fun birthday activity. Additionally, parents are welcome to donate something special to the class in honor of their child. We understand that birthdays are special , and every student and staff member will be recognized with a birthday song at our monthly assemblies.
