WPUSD'S PORTRAIT OF A LEARNER🎓
What is a Portrait of a Learner?
Imagine a world where every child develops the essential skills they need to become successful adults. With your help, we've identified these very skills, and we are excited to share them with you today. You may have already noticed these traits around campus, or perhaps your child has already mentioned them to you!
As we bring our entire community together to help our young learners grow into successful adults, we would love your support in embracing this initiative. Share the graphic and video linked below with family, co-workers, sports coaches, and more! Our vision is for WPUSD's Portrait of a Learner to become common knowledge beyond the classroom. As this initiative progresses, students will learn and demonstrate these traits, leaving Western Placer schools with a tangible portfolio they can use when applying to colleges, interviewing for jobs, and incorporating into their daily lives.
We are just scratching the surface of our Portrait of a Learner rollout, and we hope you will help us build awareness! You can find more information on our website HERE.

A testimony from a Phoenix Angel!
Miss Nina Mazzo has been a dedicated volunteer at Phoenix High School for the past several years. Prior to becoming a "Phoenix Angel," she played a pivotal role in creating the school's art program. Her ability to connect with students made her art classes a beloved part of Phoenix High's experience. Recently, Miss Nina has transitioned from her classroom volunteer work to offering invaluable behind-the-scenes support.

ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION NEWS😎
As the new school year unfolds, Phoenix High School and ATLAS Learning Academy are excited by the district-wide emphasis on the Portrait of a Learner. This concept centers on six essential skills and mindsets: resilience, kindness, collaboration, curiosity, integrity, and critical thinking. For us, education is more than just academics; it's about developing the qualities that prepare our students for success beyond the classroom.
Recently, we took over fifty students to see the Broadway Sacramento production of “Jersey Boys." This experience was not just about enjoying an evening of live theater, but also about fostering a sense of community among our students. Before the show, students and staff gathered for a meal, sharing stories, laughter, and building the camaraderie that is so vital to our learning environment. This outing was an excellent example of students working together with staff to be active and courageous members of both our school and the broader social community. By stepping out of their comfort zones and engaging in new cultural experiences, they are building resilience and curiosity—two key pillars of the Portrait of a Learner. . . READ MORE
