The Beaverton School District announced that:

• 2nd semester class fees have been reduced by 50%
• outstanding fees have been adjusted to reflect the change
• seniors who have paid the fees will receive a refund of half of the fee
• 9th-11th grade students will receive a credit to their account of half of the fee – this can be used to pay current outstanding fines or used for new fees assessed in the next school year
• spring sports refunds mailed May 18

The AP art students take a year long, rigorous art course and develop a portfolio in Drawing, 2D Design or 3D Design. Students are asked to pose a question and explore the answers to that question through their art in a sustained investigation. Please visit our AP Art Show through this link.

Nike will donate $7,500 to ten Beaverton School District schools to increase high school graduation rates and help all students realize their full potential.

Aloha High School, Arts & Communication Magnet Academy (ACMA), Beaverton High School, Community School, Health & Science School (BASE), International School of Beaverton (ISB), Mountainside High School, Southridge High School, Sunset High School, and Westview High School will all receive the $7,500 grant to use toward AVID or other college and career-readiness programs during the 2020-2021 school year.

Last year, Nike was a key partner in the Coalition for the Common Good, a labor-business coalition that played a leadership role in developing the Student Success Act, which included a broad-based funding mechanism to add much-needed investments and financial support for our public schools. In addition to this statewide support, they are continuing their commitment to help students in Oregon prepare for future success through the Nike School Innovation Fund (NSIF).

The Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) announced last week that Oregon families with children who are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals will get cash benefits for the meals they would have received at school even if they have been accessing meals from schools during the closure. Families affected by COVID-19 may still apply for free and reduced meals for this school year.

Benefits will be retroactive to March 16, 2020 for students who received free and reduced price meals when schools closed. For newly eligible free or reduced-price meals or SNAP households, benefits will start at the beginning of the month they become eligible. Eligible families will receive the following for each child:

• $69 for March
• $126 in April
• $120 in May
• $69 in June
