Mr. Mauck's Musings
Happy Pi Day! Today is 3-14 and the Math Department celebrates Pi today. This weekend head down to the Library and cultural center to see the Youth Art Month displays. Congratulations to Isabella Harmon for her top ten finish in the senior girls division at the Indiana Archery State Finals. Also congratulations to Molly Isaacs and Ms. Julie Schubert who were selected as the Student and Staff of the Week. Several BPA students had an outstanding State competition and have qualified for the BPA National Competition: Broadcast News Production Team consisting of Eli Clark, Dylan Durcholz, Landon Fuhs, and Grant Seibert, Zoie Warner in Graphic Design, Leo Wolf and Grant Seibert in Digital Media Production, Jordan Voegerl in Payroll Accounting and Advanced Accounting, Haley Hallett in Banking and Finance, Aidan Schue in Personal Finance, Caroline Schipp in Basic Office Systems and Fundamental Spreadsheet, Erin Verkamp in Fundamental Spreadsheet and Health Administration, Nicole Fant in Business Law and Ethics. JHS has a very strong BPA chapter in Indiana. Good luck to our students competing at Nationals.
We had several special opportunities for our students this week. The JHS peer mentors went to Jasper Elementary and Ireland Elementary to speak with the DARE classes. Two Jasper High alumni returned to speak with our students. Diana Sanchez spoke to the JAG and Human Services classes about her path through Cosmetology school. Austin Blessinger from American Fidelity spoke with the Sophomores in English class about insurance options available to adults. Thank you to Austin and Diana for giving back to JHS. The Advanced Animal Science class reviewed the digestive system by dissecting the digestive tract of a hog. While the smell was not pleasant, the kids were excited to physically see the digestive system.
Mr. Kendall and the Athletic Department have released this years Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. Congratulations to this years slate of winners. There are some modern era athletes and some blasts from the past. Thank you to all for setting the bar high and building that JHS tradition.
JHS Student Council will host a Kindness Week next week!! During Kindness Week students will have the opportunity to grab a random act of kindness from the board outside of room 400. Students will also be able to write a kind note for the board in the cafeteria. Each action will get the students a ticket in the raffle at lunch. If you have any questions please reach out to Mrs. Ferguson or Morgan Metz!! The 2025-2026 Class Officer Elections will take place on Wednesday, March 19 until 3:00 pm and on Thursday, March 20. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid site is now open for Students and Parents to complete their applications for next year. Any student considering attending college should complete the FAFSA to be eligible for financial assistance. I would encourage all families to fill out a application regardless of need as many colleges require FAFSA completion for all types of assistance. Many schools require submission for competitive non-need based scholarships or grants. The application is much easier than in the past. Click on the link for more information and to complete your application. FAFSA
