Principal's Corner
Ponderings from the Principal
This week we celebrate being back in church for mass! While there are still parts to be completed, it was wonderful to have music again for our All School Mass. It was even more wonderful to hear the voices of our children ring out in praise. Today, we also held our first "Passing the Light of Leadership" ceremony. In this, the 8th grade students lit a candle of a 7th grade student to symbolize they were "passing" the student leadership off to them. Our eighth graders were also given a pocket cross to carry with them as they move on to high school. It has been a wonderful week!
JH Band Next Year
As stated earlier, our students will be shifting to band instruments next year and we will be discontinuing our strings program. Mr. Gunn (Mr. G) will be back and instructing them. He has also started working with students in grades 5 - 7 to find which instrument will be "best" for them. Students in grades 6-8 will have JH Band as a required course next year.
Eighth Grade Graduation
It is hard to believe, but next week our eighth grade students will be graduating. On Wednesday, we will hold a mass and awards ceremony marking their graduation and recognizing their accomplishments. The mass begins at 6 p.m. with the diploma presentation and awards ceremony after.
Congratulations to our 8th graders Cam Anderson, Alice Austin, Maggie Coffey, Huston Cook, Parker Fitzpatrick, Henry Giesting, Grace Hardebeck, Grant Hartwell, Emma Hunter, Natalie Kranz, Ryan McGuire, Anthony Meer, Ella Meer, Myra Meer, Declan Meyer, Allie Peetz, Luke Richardson, Blake Rudolf, Solara Scheel, Elsa Schneider, Wyatt Steinkamp, Grant Streator, Jack Teckulve, Bella Watson, Jaxson Watson, Ellie Weberding, and Hunter Young.
May you continue to find ways for your faith to grow and your Christ light to shine.
Report Cards & End of Year Awards
Our students in grades K-7 will have their last mass on Thursday next week. We will have a short ceremony with some awards for Perfect Attendance, BAAC awards, and the Presidential Education Awards to name a few. While these awards are mostly for students in grades 3-7, we invite you to attend mass with us if you can.
Report Cards and end of year ILearn results should come your way then too.
No Aftercare on the Last Day
We will not be offering aftercare on the last day of school. If you use this service on a regular basis, please make sure your child has alternate plans for pick-up at the end of the day.

School prayer for 2025-26
Our prayer for next year has been selected. Congratulations, Lucy Brelage!
"Almighty God,
Creator of the universe,
Thank You for this new day.
Help us to do our best learning today—
To listen carefully, think clearly, and work hard.
Guide our thoughts, words, and actions,
So that we may be kind to others,
Respectful to our teachers,
And honest in all we do.
Be with us in our challenges and our joys,
And help us grow in wisdom, patience, and love.
In your good and holy name we pray.
Amen."
Lucy Brelage
Passing the Light of Leadership
We began a new tradition for the 8th graders, "Passing the Light of Leadership" on to our 7th-grade class. Our 7th graders accepted the light and pledged to lead with humble hearts, faith, kindness, and compassion, honoring the example set by those before them. Best wishes to our 8th graders who accepted a blessed pocket cross at the ceremony to remind them to carry Christ wherever they go.
2024-25 Yearbooks
YEARBOOKS ARE HERE!!
Another school year is coming to a close, and with it, we celebrate the completion of another
amazing yearbook, created by our very own talented SLS students! Thank you to all who purchased a yearbook this year!
Creating a yearbook is no small task. Our students have shown their creativity, individuality, and
dedication into every page. Despite facing a few challenges along the way, they still were able
to produce something special. The unique personality of each student shines through in the
pages they helped design, and I couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and commitment.
I hope you enjoy flipping through the yearbook and seeing the talent and imagination that went
into capturing this school year. Congratulations to the entire Yearbook Club, job well done!

Additional Rummage Sale info
Parents,
The Annual SLS Rummage Sale sponsored by the PTO is creeping up and we need everyone to help pitch in!
Please look at the below calendar and sign up when and where you can! We need your hands- for any day or any amount of time. Nehemiah 3:28 says "Many hands made light work." The rummage sale is a very concentrated 2-week event and requires everyone to pitch in and help!
One of the goals for the 2025-2026 PTO is to promote modernization of the school, something that was highlighted as a need in our earlier parent and staff feedback form this year. We look forward to seeing the many faces of the St. Louis Catholic School and Parish Community come together to kick off the summer and come together for the service of our school.

Band Rental Night
Band Rental Night Announcement
We will be holding a Band Rental Night to ensure all students have instruments ready for the first day of school this fall. Please join us on Wednesday, May 21st, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM in the music room. Before then, students will have the opportunity to try out different instruments during class to help them decide which one they'd like to play.
If you're unable to attend in person, you can also rent instruments online at QandF.com.
Vision Fund
Miss McKee's first grade is grateful for the Joan and John Hillenbrand Vision Fund. With their donation we were able to purchase a class set of digit blocks to help us with addition, subtraction, number exploration and fun building challenges. We have enjoyed our fun and different way of doing math since adding these to our classroom.
Thank you to Joan and John Hillenbrand for their continued generosity and commitment to education in our community!
Mental Health Awareness Day
On May 14th, SLS celebrated Mental Health Awareness Day as part of Mental Health Awareness Month. Students and staff showed their support by wearing green to help raise awareness about the importance of mental health. In PreK through 3rd grade, students enjoyed a special read-aloud about emotions with guest readers Police Chief Michael Manus, Assistant Chief Travis Cook, and Lisa Tuveson from the Coalition for a Drug-Free Batesville. They also completed a fun coloring activity to explore and express their feelings.
Throughout the day, a brain break coloring station was available for all students as a way to relax and practice healthy coping strategies. Students and staff also participated in a school-wide scavenger hunt, with prizes that encouraged reduced screen time and promoted positive, face-to-face interactions.
We are grateful to the Coalition for a Drug-Free Batesville and Kiwanis for helping make this meaningful and impactful day possible.

Weekly Bingo needs your help!!
SLS Parents and Guardians,
We need your help! Weekly bingo has been bringing in over $2,000 dollars every week for our school, but we are scrambling to fill in the workers we need. Please consider helping; it's a great way to meet other parents and have a good time. We typically have each volunteer work once a month, but we can use whatever time you are willing to give us.
Jobs are easy and include: selling Instant tickets (6-9pm), clearing tables (7-10PM), calling bingo (7-10PM), running a cash register (5:45-9:45), and working in the kitchen (5ish-9). There is something for everyone, and you are supporting our amazing school!
Please consider helping us out.
